Delta, Frontier & American Airlines All Join jetBlue In Requiring Face Coverings

Earlier this week jetBlue announced it would require passengers to wear face coverings starting May 4th. Since then other airlines have announced similar policies:

CDC guidelines state individuals should wear face coverings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please avoid politics in the comments below, otherwise the comments will be locked. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.

Time for Alaska, Allegiant, Hawaiian, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country and United to also get with it

Per news reports, United is doing it too, effective May 4. Supposedly, they’ll be providing them to passengers.

United has a plan in place to “knock some sense into you” if you don’t comply.

Oh no, now what airline is that “Jet Blue and its Soviet tendencies” guy going to fly? /s

Seriously though, glad they’re all falling in line though I realize it’s going to stink having to wear one for several hours.

Try wearing it for 8 or 12 hours as a front line employee.

I couldn’t even imagine having to do that. It burns me every time I see some random person wearing an N95 mask. Thank you.

Maybe they’re a less than obvious healthcare worker…?

I don’t think it should bother you. There are plenty of people that already had a few N95 masks when this pandemic hit and began wearing them (hopefully donating any excess). It wouldn’t make sense to donate a previously-used (disposable) N95 mask, and they probably wear the same one every time they go out, etc. Basically, it is good to tell people not to go out and buy them and to reserve them for healthcare, etc. However, it isn’t right to automatically judge everyone who has one.

I also had masks stored for emergencies and have been baking mine after use and reusing. Obviously there are greedy individuals but for your own peace of mind I encourage you to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Please consider that maybe those people have a good reason for wearing N95 masks. Since you likely don’t know this “random person” (by virtue of them being random), you likely aren’t familiar with their personal circumstances and reasonings for wearing an N95 mask.

I recall all those stories of a passerby angrily confronting a person parking in a disabled parking space because the passerby didn’t see any obvious reason why that person should be parking in that space. But just because you don’t see an obvious reason doesn’t mean there isn’t a perfectly legitimate reason.

I found a N95 mask in my car.
I bought one a few years ago because of the bleach fumes from the mixture we used to clean cat cages at a rescue I volunteered at.
After wearing a few times, I stopped. It was too uncomfortable.

For you and everyone here, getting/making a plastic hook for the mask straps will help exponentially. My mom works in a hospital and used a milk jug to make one. Really takes the strain off your ears.

You have to the freedom to not fly. Whenever you purchase an airline ticket, you’re contractually bound by the airline’s Conditions of Carriage. Now, whether this specific new rule is covered currently under their Conditions of Carriage somehow, or will be soon, I don’t know.

I think there’s also an enforceable FAA rule about obeying instructions given by FA’s, but I’m not 100% sure what exactly that covers. But again, you don’t have to fly if you don’t like the rules that come with flying.
