I go down to my AirBnb in Bogota from Washington, 3-4 times per year. Colombia is a bargain but Delta is no bargain at 34k. Usually American is 15-20k, United is 20k , Avianca Lifemiles is around 20k and JetBlue varies but is usually much less than 34k. In fact, I have a friend flying down to Cartagena on Avianca in two weeks for 8500 Lifemiles (basic).
Is that international business class? Because that’s what Delta One is at 34k.

I travel often to South America and bought my first ticket to Peru through Delta on February with miles and used 54000 round trip in Premium Economy. This seems a bit expensive.
And do you just grab whatever, or do you do any research first about the destination? For ex., if it was just like 20k D1 to Ukraine, are you just going to hit book and figure it out later or?
Celery I was wondering.. is it confirmed that Delta is 100% refunding all award flights, including international flights, booked with miles? Because on FlyerTalk people told me yes that’s what Delta is doing but strangely on Delta’s own web site it still says there are big fees to cancel international award tickets.. so it’s confusing
like United completely removed award cancellation fees and it says so on United’s site.. but I dunno about Delta.. if anyone knows for sure?
Sunshine No fees to redeposit miles with Delta. Maybe basic economy is an exception, not sure, but can’t think of any other possible exception. Where are you seeing this language on their website?
It’s actually easier than United in that they don’t try to give you the refund as a weird future credit thing like United (which you can opt out of), they just redeposit miles and refund the taxes/fees to the credit card automatically and by default.
Celery I’m overseas half the year so usually I’m needing to book flights originating one-way from outside the U.S.. what I still see on Delta’s web site even right now: “The following policies apply for Award Tickets for travel originating in the United States and Canada to anywhere in the world, excluding Basic Economy tickets:**
but on FlyerTalk a few people wrote that the no redeposit fees for award tickets apply for ALL tickets, including those originating outside the U.S.. so that’s why I haven’t booked any yet. I’m sure about my plans for travel back to the U.S.. and I don’t know whether it’s safe that I won’t get the $150 fee. I called Delta twice and was told two different things.. one time told the fees were eliminated including for award flights originating from outside the U.S.. but the second time I was told there is still a $150 fee. Going through the booking process on the web site doesn’t offer any clarification either as it still alludes to there being fees.
I’m still seeking clarification or other Delta flyers experiences on it.
I always do one-way tickets because I travel all the time.. so I’m primarily just trying to figure out if I book an award miles flight originating outside the U.S with Delta miles if it’s fully refundable if I need to cancel.

Anddd it’s done. Price changed while booking. Lowest 51k (60k non Amex). That was quick.
Not sure why people here don’t realize that the return flight was costing the same amount of miles too. The ‘one-way’ in the post is just for pricing.
how do you get back
you don’t KubKadet

Surprisingly still up, booked round-trip for 68k.
Curious, are you planning your vacation around it, or is this just to fly-and-back?
Vacation of course. At this point, my vacations are decided based on where and when I find deals like these.

I do limited research, but could always cancel later if I decide not to go, so I do more extensive research after I have a confirmed ticket.
