Our Verdict

Make sure to price compare to ensure you’re getting a good deal. In addition remember you can get big discounts on hotels normally as well, so take that into account. I wish there was a way to book a hotel for two nights in a package, but have the return flight come later but that doesn’t seem possible. 2¢ per mile is great value for Delta, but you’re not really getting that value when you think about the opportunity cost of booking the hotels elsewhere. I also assume when booking through Delta vacation packages you don’t get elite night credits or have your status recognized at chain hotels.

Do you know if you have to take the flight in order to still use the hotel room…I can get a cheaper rate from ATL to MCO and stay at Walt Disney, but I am actually flying from AUS to MCO with B6 points as I have so many and it is a nonstop. TIA.

William Charles I received an additional ~10% off when booking this 2 cpp deal over the phone today to Europe. Lady on the phone said the promotion ends today. I’m sorry for not having more details but thought readers could benefit.

If anyone else in the US collects Kellogg’s Rewards one of the offers is a Delta Vacations $100 eCertificate for 5,000 points which seems like a pretty good deal.

I second this. Used one last night. You can only use 1 per booking and they are only good through end of year with holiday blackout dates. But still, definitely the most value you can possibly get out of KFR and goes nicely with the delta promotion.

William Charles  Chuck – A user on reddit told me it was extended to 9/6, I called and they told me the same thing. Are you able to verify with any contacts you have at Delta or other travel gurus?

You can book hotels for only 2 nights but have the return come back later, you just need to call. You can also book multi-city by calling. However, when i called I was advised of a 3 night minimum to Europe and 4 nights to Asia.

I booked MSP-EDI, LHR-MSP over 12 days but only using hotels 3 of those nights.

I took a look, and the requirement to utilize the hotel for every day in the package makes it hard to utilize for me.

Could I do a dummy booking and cancel just for the Delta Vacation voucher? Are they like a travel voucher? I’m curious if you can get 2 cents per point, cancel, receive vacation voucher, and redeem on anything I want.

Good job reading the fine print… Now I am curious. Then you could also earn new Skymiles on the flights flown with the voucher.

It looks like you would still get the cancellation fee on the airfare ($200/person), so your net benefit would have to be more than this to make it worth it. I guess you would have to book a trip for 50k skymiles ($1k value) or more.

What about Delta’s 24 hour free cancellation policy?

Within 24 hour cancellation you would get your miles back instead of vacation voucher

My guess is this would only be valid on Delta Vacations, but could allow you to extend the promotion for yourself if that’s your prerogative.

Only if you buy the trip insurance. The you will get a voucher only for Delta Vacations. Other option would be airfare minus cancellation fees but that is higher then buying the insurance.
