The Offer
Discover is sending out an email to many of their credit cardholders with various spend offers:
- Activate to earn $250 when you spend $2,500 by 12/31/23. That’s in addition to standard credit card rewards.
- Others got $100 after $1,000 spend.
- You can stack these generic spend offers by spending at Amazon or Target during Q4 2023 which already earn 5% back (requires activation).
- Activate to earn extra 2% cash back on all purchases through 12/31/23. Valid on up to $2,000 in purchases.
- Others got a higher 4% offer.
- These versions can also stack with the Q4 5% categories.
- Activate to earn 6% back at Grocery Stores, on up to $1,000 in spend, until 12/31/23. That’s in addition to standard credit card rewards.
- Others got a similar offer for 6% back at Walmart or for Digital Wallets.
Our Verdict
Some nice offers here. I was lucky to get the $250 bonus offer. I’m not sure if everyone got one of these offers or it’s targeted; search email for <[email protected]> to find and activate.
Never ever gotten a Discover offer aside from useless balance transfer offers with 4% fees
Did anyone get the 4% for using a digital wallet. I added my card to PP and didn’t get but 1% on the statement.
Do gift cards count toward the $2500/$250 Discover bonus?

Today, I asked Discover rep in a chat:
“I signed up for the “earn $100 extra cash back when you spend at least $1,000 by 12/31/2023″ sometime back. I am now nearly at the $1000 amount now. My question is how soon will I see the $100 in my rewards account?”
Their reply was :
“ Earned rewards generally are available within the next billing cycle of earning the reward. You would see in reflected on the next billing statement.”
Earlier, I got an offer for an extra 4% on up to $1500 through a digital wallet. Then I got this “spend $1000, get $100” offer. So if I use Apple Pay for $1500 at Target, I should get $75 (regular quarterly 5%) plus $60 plus $100, right?

Got the Walmart offer and used it, but only see 1% rewards. With Discover I kind of expected them to show the extra rewards right away even though the terms say up to 2 billing periods. I’m worried it’s because I used an authorized user card (the number is the same so I didn’t even realize they could tell which one I used). Can anybody tell me if they are seeing the rewards immediately?
Same thing here with 6% cashback at Walmart. Only shows 1% in rewards. I spoke to cs was told the difference will be added at end of promotion. With Discover rewards it has always shown the correct % regardless of what promotion they are running. I will have to follow up with a different agent as my purchases have posted as only 1% cashback
Forgot to follow up on this. I ended up getting the extra 6% in rewards when the statement posted, including the spending on the authorized user card.
Target has vgc on their webiste. Does it count for Discover 5%?
