The Offer
- The Drop app is offering 50,000 points if you open a new Betterment checking account and fund the account. (No minimum funding stipulated). 50,000 Drop points are worth $50 in gift cards to places like Amazon or Best Buy.
We’ve written about the Betterment checking account here. It comes with perks such as no foreign transaction fees and ATM fees waived on the debit card.
The Fine Print
- Allow up to 30 days after account funding for points to post.
- You must be a new customer (I’d guess a new checking customer will work, even if you use them for investing, but not certain).
- No points awarded for opening an Investing or Cash Reserve account.
Our Verdict
$50 in gift cards isn’t a huge bonus, but it’s an easy, no-requirement bonus for an account we’ve never seen a bonus on, and some people might want to open a Betterment checking account anyway. You can have the offer sent from the Drop app to your email if you prefer opening the account on a computer or want to save it to do later.
See our full review of Drop here. If you are new to Drop, I believe – at the time of this writing – you’ll get a 5,000 points bonus ($5) signup bonus for signing up using a referral link if you also link a card in the app.
Hat tip to reader Bill
does anyone have the official betterment offer on drop? they’re denying my points because i only deposited $.01 and drop is saying i didn’t meet the minimum requirement. i’m trying to see if they wrote that there was a minimum or not…i went by what DoC wrote above that no minimum was stipulated…sigh 🙁
It’s still on there. They claimed I needed to put $100 in. I showed them the offer as per their site.
They said it was a hard line for them, so I closed my Betterment account. I’ll try to open another one tomorrow and put in $100
Well, it only took twenty emails to support and over 2 months, but i finally got credit.
Also was credited today.
Mine credited too.
Mine posted today as well, took me 18 less emails, but same amount of time.
Your support tickets below all have the same wording as mine did except substitute dog food for betterment. My dog food offer was pending right up till payday then mysteriously disappeared. Played around for a month and even had dog food company contact them. Finally was credited but when they credited the points they raised my redemption level so I could not redeem all the points. Complained and was able to get them to put it at the lower level again ( because the dog food was shopping through drop ) then I redeemed all my points and DROPPED drop.
I was having problems like most people here but just received the good news after sending ~5 support tickets and filing complaints with Apple and BBB: “. I’ve just received word from them that your completion has now been updated following a review by themselves and our partner team, and the offer has been completed, awarding points to your account.” Yay!
Who sent you that message? BBB?
Drop. I had already filed complaints and sent them a screenshot of offer completion. Here’s the full message from a rep at Drop:
“Hi ,
Thanks for your patience while we work through the Betterment offer issues that you’d raised. I’ve just received word from them that your completion has now been updated following a review by themselves and our partner team, and the offer has been completed, awarding points to your account.
My sincere apologies for the delay on completing this offer, and again, we really appreciate your patience.
Please do let me know if you have any other questions, and I’ll be happy to lend a hand.”
Applied and approved on 9/24, 50k Drop points posted on 10/3 (iPhone).
P2 applied on 10/17, approved on 10/19, 50k Drop points (+ 5k for referral) posted on 10/24 (Android).
P3 and P4 applied and approved on 10/17, 50k Drop points (+ 5k for referral) posted on 10/24 (Android).
No problems with any of us getting the Drop points. Only issue was that P2 had to upload ID and SS card to get approved by Betterment.
“Thanks very much for your patience while we work through an issue with the Betterment offer. It seems that a few of our members haven’t gotten points yet, so we are revisiting this offer as we speak to ensure that all qualifying members have been awarded points, and to ensure that all members who don’t qualify know exactly why.
We are aiming to have a response out to all of our members by the middle of next week. Please bear in mind that we are a Canadian company and this past weekend was a long holiday for us (Thanksgiving), so we are still working on this issue. 🦃
At this time, I’ll be placing your ticket on hold while we work with our team to hash this out.
Thank you again for your patience, hang tight! 🙂
Olive”
I literally got the same exact response. Word for freaking word!
“Hi Brooks,
Thank you for your patience. Our engineers are working on this with our partners as we speak. A number of our members have not gotten their points, so rest assured, this is being worked on. We will update you here as soon as we have more details.
Thank you for your continued patience”
THESE CAWKSUCKERS ARE CLOSING MY TICKETS AS SOLVED WITHOUT A RESPONSE AND NOT HANDING ME MY POINTS LOL WHAT A SHIT COMPANY LMAO.
Hmm, I don’t know why so many are having problems with this offer, P2 and I each completed this offer with no issues. Both with $50 Amazon gift cards already cashed out. I’ve been scammed on many other offers (Swagbucks), but not this one. I have only ever had one problem with drop with a Sirius xm offer, but it looks like Sirius hardly ever credits for any of their offers anyway. Drop would not help me, so I wouldn’t rely on their customer support for help.
If it helps, I used an iPhone 6 to complete this offer in full, and have never had any sort of a betterment account before. I opened the checking account through the drop link/window and deposited $5 into the account. The offer credited in about a week after I completed all requirements. P2 even got a targeted 2000 point shop bonus for completing this offer.
From the looks of it it was pure luck if you had issues or not. They likely ran out of their advertising budget for the offer, but just left it up anyways so anyone who signed up after they ran out of money did not track.
I don’t think that’s the case. 3 of my family members applied on 10/17 and got their bonus yesterday.
I’m not giving up on this one easily. I am prepared to hammer them for this credit. I reached out again and was provided with an update.
According to their CSR, they are currently looking into the offer to make sure those who qualify get their points awarded. And if you don’t qualify, they will let you know why. They are hoping to have a response by next week. This could all be BS but we will see. Update to follow!
Keep us updated. My guess is many did not receive the bonus because they met a marketing budget cuota. I will file a complaint later today.
I’d like to encourage any of you who were scammed by this offer to leave a scathing review here for the app. To my knowledge this is one of the more influential sites for reviews of “get paid to (GPT) ” apps. I know someone who runs a GPT site and has been reeling for over a year from one angry person review bombing his site with negative reviews.

I likely don’t need to say this, but please only do one review!
