Our Verdict
Normally we don’t post these restricted seller eBay deals because sellers often just jack up their prices. The list of eligible sellers is longer than it normally is and we usually don’t get this much notice ahead of time so I’m hopeful we won’t see as much price jacking, if we do we will revert back to never posting these again. We’ve also seen a lot of 15% off sitewide deals recently as well, so it might just make more sense to wait for one of those. We will repost this when this deal goes live, but it might be a good idea to price check any items you’re interested in now to see if price jacking does occur. As always don’t forget to go through a shopping portal to earn up to 2% cash back.
ebay always bump up prices by 10-20% just before this coupon starts..
“Ebay” doesn’t. Some of the individual sellers participating in this promotion do. See @Carlos’s comment hours before yours to understand why.
I could see charging for shipping during these promos (assuming the seller as mentioned above is footing the coupon discount), but other than that as a seller I wouldn’t raise rates. If opting to participate in such a promo you should do it genuinely, not dishonestly. I would consider that dishonest to raise your rates right before a “sale”.
But also as a seller when offering free shipping that is down to the very low profit margin so honestly if I were accommodating the 15% Off coupon I’d charge for shipping instead of offering free shipping.
Btw eBay still charges us sellers a 10% fee on whatever shipping cost you pay plus another roughly 3% from PayPal.
I’m not in the current coupon offer but just my two cents as a frequent eBay seller.
My store is participating in this promotion. In promotions like this one, most of the sellers fund the coupon and not eBay. From time to time eBay offers to subsidy the coupon, either all of it or half of it.
In the case of my store, I’m not raising the prices so the 15% is legit at least for my store.
thank u. thats great insight. now it makes sense why the prices get jacked up. hence i look for sitewide ebay discounts. i assume those are ebay funded and sponsored.
Yes, those are sponsored by eBay and they are awesome for both sellers and buyers.
Thanks for the info, Carlos. Appreciate it.
I’m an eBay seller I wonder how you get on their seller list for these 15% off coupons definitely would like to since I’m sure they all see a large increase in sales during promos.
