eBay Bucks Going Down From 2% to 1% on January 1

eBay sent out an email today talking about ‘improvements’ to their Bucks program, including that we’ll only earn 1% instead of 2% for each purchase.

Here are the improvements:

1) The eBay Bucks program will include Parts & Accessories and Business and Industrial. An exception is the Heavy Equipment category in Business & Industrial.

2) They’ll begin offering Bucks promos for sellers. “There is no base earn on selling. Bucks members will receive occasional bonus offers (promotions) for selling.” I expect these to be targeted offers or special times where you can get back a percentage of your sales in the form of eBay Bucks. We saw them offer this once before, apparently as a test.

3) No more $5 minimum Bucks earn threshold.

The big negative change is that base earning go down from 2% to 1%. I wonder how that will affect future bonus Bucks offers; it might be that that 5x or 4x offers will be just 5%/4%, instead of 10%/8%. We’ll see…

Since gift cards stopped earning Bucks, the change doesn’t matter a whole lot for many of us. It still does affect product-resellers or those who shop on eBay for ordinary merchandise.

Hi, I’ve used ebay bucks as well, but since they give 1% I use the cashback tool from link-o-mat for my browser (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/link-o-mat-cashback-tool/pgcemonjljjijabmppnhjoonaoajegce?hl=de) – So get cashback for every purchase, round about 2.5%

Wow. 1% is hardly worth bothering with. I never really paid much attention to eBucks anyway unless I was getting 6X or 8X anyway. However, since they’ve cut out gift cards getting eBucks, I hardly pay attention anymore. Their gift cards are mostly crap anyway.

10% now 12/5 and tomorrow 12/6 for $50 and up, sounds like we don’t have too many chances before going down to 1% on ebay bucks.

Ebay, Paypal and Sears all can go out of business and I’ll never miss them.

Missed the latest 8% ebay bucks for any amount purchase on 11/29 & 11/30 . I remember in November there was once they had the promo that 8% was only for purchase of $150 and more. I was thinking it might go down in the future since the requirement purchase was so high. I hope they can still have at least one more 8% or 10% in X’mas time.

OK, as I expected, they now have 10% from 12/5-12/6, ahead of x’mas time, but will buy before going down to 1% next year

I have noticed the same exact thing about Krogers only selling 25$ ebay gift cards and yes the supply depletes quickly. This sucks because I just discovered the way way of saving over 30% on alot of purchases. I had a few bullion orders in this way before they clamped that down.
I do not understand this ebay sales are surely going to go down, why are they doing this. I can no longer recommend ebay to friends and family.

If you have to shave a percentage point here and there to achieve growth, this isn’t actually a rocket ship you’re riding…

I’ve read that Ebay is also no longer available online.

I may have read it wrong but I looked at the detailed terms, and thought it was worded in a way to indicate Ebucks would be earned on third party gift card purchases again, just not on Ebay gift cards. What is your read?
