eBay To Attempt To Compete With Prime Day

eBay has released a thinly veiled swipe at Amazon’s prime day in a new post stating that starting on July 16th (prime day) they will be launching a week of with thousands of exclusive deals. Also stating that no “membership required….ever”. Other retailers including Best Buy & Walmart attempted similar strategies last year as well, but if anything this is just drawing more attention to Prime day. eBay’s promises of deals at this stage is just that, I’ll believe it when we see another 20% off site-wide coupon when it’s not the end of a quarter. For now at least the deals in the lead up to Prime day (e.g 20% off when using a single MR point) have been good. If any eBay sellers have been approached by eBay in regards to this sale, feel free to share anything you know in the comments below.

Just offer 20% ebay coupon with no cap and it’ll destroy Amazon Prime Day. Amazon Prime Day was a joke last year.

Is this new 110% price match guarantee new? That looks interesting (though honestly it’s not a huge amount of money, e.g. if it’s $20 cheaper on Amazon, you’ll save $2 by buying on eBay, but you’ll have the hassle of doing the price match).

And it’s not a savings on that purchase, exactly, since they just send you a coupon to use on a subsequent order.

Last year the ebay app sent me a snarky notification along the same lines as this on prime day.

Awesome, I’m sure ebay’s deals will be better. Their ongoing coupons are way more useful than Amazon’s lame prime day. The prime day “deals” have been mostly junk last few years, whereas I’ve been able to get a real discount on top shelf electronics and camera equipment on Ebay with the promos.

Agreed, I don’t even check Amazon deals anymore. It’s the same stuff over and over, a lot of off-brand items. The few times they do have legit deals on name brand stuff, always sold out by the time I notice it.

Just yesterday I got a notification + email about a Macbook Air sale on eBay. At $695 it was about $200 less than anywhere else I saw and even on eBay they regularly go for $850-900ish. I thought about buying one just for reselling but I suspect there’s a new Air on the way and it seemed like a trap for reselling. All 2000 sold out within hours, but still better than Amazon where things seem to go inhumanly fast. Hoping to see something similar return.
