Our Verdict
This is much better than the standard $20 referral bonus they offer (read that post for more information regarding Ellevest), although they did have a $50 referral bonus in the past. For more brokerage bonuses read this post.
Hat tip to reader @chaseing-ing UR Points
I received an 8949 from Ellevest today. I completely forgot about this account.
Yeah, I thought maybe we’d slipped under the radar on this one. They’re just slow, not that I’m surprised.
Also, it says that a 1099-B will be available 2/28. I’m not sure if I’m receiving that in addition to the 8949.
What do we do with this 8949? The totals come to $5 and 2 cents for short and long term. Should this be reported? Also, I received 1099 form. Don’t we not report anything that is less than $10? This will force me to upgrade to premier tax version if I do need to report it!
I would report it. The 1099 and 8949 has basically the same info.
I didn’t sell anything in the account last year, only got the $117 bonus. On my Documents page in Ellevest, there’s still not a 1099. Anyone else in the same boat? Should I continue waiting or am I clear to file my taxes now? This was the last one I was waiting for, since they said it would be available by the end of February. Well that’s today, and still nothing.
I’m in a similar situation. I don’t think they’re sending a 1099 if your interest was less than $10, and you didn’t have any dividends nor stock sales. My money was in the Emergency Fund goal, which only paid me a few cents of interest. Folio (the custodian Ellevest uses) sent a 1099 a few days ago for Swell brokerage, and other people have received 1099s from Ellevest. So if we haven’t received one yet, I doubt we will at all. But to be safe I’d wait a few more days.
Nothing ever showed up, they said if it wasn’t here by the end of the day I wasn’t getting one. Filed my taxes. Hakuna Matada
So if there is no 1099 should we still report it while filing taxes?
No form received, no tax reported. From what I can tell on the monthly statement in January, Ellevest doesn’t even count the 117 as interest or dividends.
Same boat, still see nothing, last form I was waiting on. I’ll give it a couple of days and then file.
Just got 80 emails from them this morning. Tax form stuff.
Jeff G 80 emails? Wow. Did they count the $117 on your form? Haven’t gotten a tax form and that’s all that would be on it for me.
Has anyone who received this bonus and withdraw the funds now see that their referral invitations are now inactive with a message that stated they reserve the right to do so?
Find it interesting that they now blocked my future referrals.
Yes, that happened to me after acquiring about 8 or so referrals. How many referrals did you have? I guess they just want to limit how many referrals each user can make without explicitly stating what that limit is.
I actually didn’t refer anyone. I just did the 117 bonus. I immediately pushed the bonus and initial funding to my Bank. That must be why.
Anyone been able to view online a 1099 or receive one in the mail from this company or filo. When I login I do not see anything under tax docuements
This is what it says under it.
We’ll email you when these forms are ready to download, which should be around the end of February.
Now I see.
You will only receive a 1099 if you sold securities or your dividends or interest was greater than $10.
So I don’t think this bonus will be included in a 1099
P1 and P2 received $117 deposit on 12/31
Initiated withdrawal 01/07
Has anyone withdrawn their money yet?
Was there a fee?
I notice this verbiage on the page “A very small percentage may be withheld and used to cover Ellevest’s custodial fee and the standard transaction processing fee for brokerage accounts”.
Initiated a push from Ellevest today. Will report when it posts to my external account.
Opened with $1 and bonus posted 12/31.
Would be interested to know this too, my bonus just posted.
The full $118 ($1 initial deposit and $117 Bonus) was pushed to my external account with no fees held. I also see the $118 posted in my external account. Just initiated the process to close (email concierge AT ellevest DOT com) https://support.ellevest.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007077554-How-do-I-close-my-Ellevest-account-
Just logged in and requested to withdraw the money. It shows $115.55 instead of $118. Will report when the money arrives at my bank account.
I initiated the withdrawal right now to my bank account. It didn’t mention anything about fees though.
Bonus posted 12/31 had to contact them to sue the the promo was attached when we signed up. Posted in emergency fund and will pull shortly.
My bonus posted last night (12/31) and P2’s posted this morning.
My 117 posted as of this morning
