Around 3 years. They take them at the end of your birth month according to what I Googled (?) No way to extend with activity.
3 years is apparently for miles earned from travel. These promo miles expire after 1 year per other comments.

These 2,000 Skywards Miles will be valid for a period of 1 year from the date of credit, after which if they remain unutilized they will be debited from members’ accounts.
Might be better signing up at the end of the promotional period if there are no future travels plans as of yet.
