Citi partners with Expedia for their co-branded credit cards, they have extended that partnership and you can now use your Citi ThankYou points to book hotels with Expedia. Unfortunately, the rate you receive when using these points is only 0.8¢, I can’t see this ever being a good option for redeeming points when you can transfer them to travel partners or towards airfare for up to 1.6¢ per point (for American Airline flights if you hold the Citi Prestige).
Here’s how it works:
- Hold a Citi ThankYou point earning credit card that is in good standing
- Have an Expedia account with a free Expedia+ membership
- Connect your Expedia & Citi accounts
- Select any hotel that is labeled as Expedia Rate
- During check out select ThankYou points as your payment method
- If you don’t have enough points to pay for the full rate, you can pay the remaining balance with your Citi credit card
Citi recently made a similar partnership with Wonder (gift card company).
i am 78 and fighting stage 4 cancer and i don’t travel. can i use my points to help pay my bill??
Catharine, you can use Citi Thank You points toward your bill. Each point will get you .5 cents. You can do better by redeeming for a gift card to a merchant you shop at (maybe you go to Walmart, Macy’s, Target, Starbucks, etc.). This will get you one cent per point. If you have a mortgage you can also redeem for one cent per point.
Does milevalue know about this? Ahem
Does Citi just get horrible deals with vendors? Amazon thankyou points aren’t 1:1, this isn’t 1:1, I’m sure Wonder won’t be 1:1…
Why is it so difficult to make 1:1 redemption options? Anyone with a basic thankyou card basically has a choice of gift cards, um, gift cards, and travel booked through Citi only. It’s just silly.
