Some people got an email from Fidelity, myself included, about new benefits on the Fidelity 2% card. I assume everyone will get this email as it goes it in batches:
- Receive up to 10,000 Reward Points every four years when you apply for either Global Entry® or TSA PreCheck®. That’s worth up to $100 when deposited into an eligible Fidelity® account, once every four years. Be sure to pay the application fee using your card to be eligible. Learn more about this benefit and review the terms at Fidelity.com/AirportBenefits
- My thoughts: Cool benefit on a solid no-fee card. TSA Pre costs $78 for five years and would end up fully covered with this benefit. Global Entry costs $120 and would be mostly covered with this benefit.
- There are many cards with this benefit, but not too many no-fee cards in that list. I did TSA PreCheck at the same time as my brother and I was able to cover the fee for him since I have multiple cards with the benefit.
- Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver at no extra cost. Be sure to review complete benefit terms at Fidelity.com/AutoRentalCoverage.
- My thoughts: I wasn’t aware that the card didn’t already have this benefit, but if it’s new that’s a nice addition. FYI – coverage is secondary behind your regular auto insurance (if you have that).
- No foreign transaction fees for international purchases.
Oh this is nice. I haven’t used my fidelity card since they decreased my limit from 14k to 500 years ago. At least now it’s at least useful for TSA precheck. I can use it so my partner doesn’t have to pay for it now.
I know the link to the sign-up bonus page has been shared widely for a while, is it legit? I’m the type to visit the main page of a site to register/sign up for anything, so feel kinda iffy. Any DPs?
I got the card in March using the $150 SUB link. The SUB credited as soon as the charge that put me over $1000 spend posted.
Good simple card to use if you’re not working on a signup bonus. I’ve used it to pay taxes and then earned interest on the 0% APR balance. But I paid it off after my credit score dropped 100 points.
There’s a $150 sign up bonus.
> But I paid it off after my credit score dropped 100 points.
What was your total available credit/utilized credit?
$12,500 limit on this card with 90% utilization. My other 2 cards had higher limits with very low utilization but that didn’t seem to make a difference.
How do you get the $100 reimbursement for the global entry? Do we subscribe to it first got 120$/4 years and then fidelity automatically credits us back?
I don’t think its a traditional reimbursement. They are depositing point equivalent in your rewards balance.
Purchase GE via your Fidelity CC and then they should credit you with 10,000 points which you can redeem for $100. Its not provided as a direct statement credit.
Anybody know if this applies to PreCheck renewals or just new applications?
“once every four years” – implies renewals are covered.
Thanks, I missed that. I didn’t get the original email.
This card use to have the Rental Car Insurance and it was removed a few years back, I’m glad that they’ve decided to include this benefit again.
For most in the hobby, a person will already have at least one other card that provides the TSA/GE reimbursement. For most in the hobby, it’s a redundant benefit with no incremental value. Not that this card offers Priority Pass but it’s kind of like having multiple cards with Priority Pass. Or purchase protection or extended warranty or . . .
Priority Pass is being devalued these days almost as fast as Marriott Bonvoy points!
It’s a fee free card.
I suppose it has incremental value if you want to get PreCheck or Global Entry for multiple (incremental) persons.
I have a $1mil relation with Fidelity and got denied for the card, pretty odd.
underwriting is done my Elan, not Fidelity. Not odd at all.
$1mil of what? Pesos? Tony Everyday Is that in IRA/Retirement?
Which one is better TSA PreCheck or Global Entry?
You get TSA precheck automatically when you have GE
Global Entry includes TSA Pre-Check, but it’s a slower and more cumbersome application process that includes an interview.
That is only needed the very first time u apply for GE. The interview is painless and the biggest PITA of the interview is driving physically there to do the stupid interview. After that generally no interview is required for renewals. Also if you never travel internationally then there is no point of GE. However if you travel internationally and you come back and see the massive line at CBP then you will wish you had GE.
IMO GE is ONLY useful if you’re traveling internationally more than once per year. Its also more of a hassle to get. TSA precheck is worth it when you’re traveling mostly domestic any number of times per year. It’s free with the card which is worth the reasonable time to sign up and get all the requirements done. “Better” depends on how and where you’re traveling
will they increase the reimbursement to 12k points when the price of global entry increases later?
Price of GE has already increased. Not sure if Fidelity didn’t realize, or if they don’t plan to increase the credit.
Many cc are not increasing the credit to $120. You just have to pay the $20 out of pocket
Probably need a bunch of us to call in and let them know about it and hopefully sometime in 2025 they will increase it. I am going to call in to try to ask them about it so hopefully it gets the juices flowing.
