The Fine Print
- Offer not available to existing checking or Express Banking customers or to those with a Fifth Third Checking or Express Banking account that has been closed within the last 12 months.
- Bank reserves the right to limit each customer to one new account-related gift incentive per calendar year.
- Essential Checking account must be opened between 1/1/2021 and 3/31/2021.
- Bonus will be deposited into your new checking account within 10 business days of completing requirements.

Avoiding Fees
Some states are able to open the Free Checking Account with Extra time (now called Momentum checking), that’s the best option if available. Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan all have the free option. Other states have another free checking offer.
Early Account Termination Fee
This account does not have an early account termination fee
Our Verdict
Fifth Third used to to offer a $300 bonus with no direct deposit or a $500 bonus with a direct deposit but neither of those offers have been seen since 2019. The standard bonus has been $300, so this is an increased offer by $50. We will be adding this to our best bank bonus page.

Post history:
- Update: Some offers now requiring direct deposit, make sure to triple check your offer.
- Update 6/12/20: Deal is back and valid until August 31, 2020. It looks like they are split testing offers though as I’ve seen offers for $50, $150 and $250 depending on the device I used. Make sure you see the $250 offer before applying, the $150 also has a direct deposit requirement whereas the $250 offer does not. You can try using a VPN or clearing cookies to get the $250 offer to show. Hat tip to reader newbie & Ben
- Update 1/4/20: Deal is back and valid until April 30th, 2020. This replaces the $500 deal. A lot of people will prefer this deal as it only requires $500 to be deposited rather than $20,000.
- Update 7/1/19: Deal has been extended until September 30th, 2019
- Update 5/20/19: Deal has been extended until June 30th, 2019. Hat tip to YAR
- Update 1/6/19: Bonus is $250, I’d still recommend waiting for a bonus of $300 instead. There was also a recent $200 + $200 deal as well.
- Update 07/01/18: Bonus has been extended until September 30th, 2018 but reduced to $200. I’d recommend waiting for the bigger $300 bonus to come back.
- Update 04/02/18: Bonus is now $250 instead of $200. Can be opened online (e-mail yourself a coupon and then follow the prompts)
- Update 01/07/18: Bonus is back but is now only $200 instead of $300. Might be worth waiting for a bigger bonus to come along.
Bonus has been increased to $300 and can be opened online again! Hat tip to reader Yaobang. Looks like $300 offer is only showing for some people, try incognito mode or google search for ‘Fifth Third’ or ‘Fifth Third $300’ and see if there is an ad for the offer or look at the comments for more ideas.

Anyone know how long i should keep acct open for before closing? Was going to give it like 90-100 days or so.
What’s the code for this one? I opened the $350 one already lol
It was from a mailer one of the members here offered to me.
You don't have to keep it open, but it's a zero minimum checking account.
I received a mailer for the fifth third bank bonus of $600 for dd of $3000 in 90 days.
3/10/25 funded the account with $25 through zelle.
3/11/25 push from Chase for $500
3/12/25 push from Chase for $1000
3/13/25 push from Chase for $1000
3/14/25 push from Chase for $547
3/17/25 bonus posted for $600
What’s the code?
They are single use codes. You can buy one from eBay, or get one from a friend. @guest_2031811 Some people get them for free from the Valpak coupon mailers.
And, if you already opened an account, you wouldn't be eligible, unless you can get the bank to switch out the code. You have to wait 13 months from account closing to churn.
3/16: Opened account online with mailer code for $600
3/19: pushed $3001 from CapOne

3/24: $600 bonus posted
Fastest and easiest bonus I’ve ever received!
I have a $600 Valpak coupon that expires on 03/31/25 and requires $3k DD. If interested, post your burner email here and I’ll share with a contributing member tomorrow, Saturday.
Second in line, if Yuki doesn't still want it. seolhohe2023@gmail.com -Thanks.
Hi, I'd love to have it if it's still available. Thanks for offering! My email is yuki63966@gmail.com.
Sent! @guest_2028489
DP: Account was auto-closed after 90 days of $0 balance. I just checked on my P2's account, and the balance was zeroed on 12/02/24, and they closed it 03/03/25... mid-statement cycle. (final statement was not a full month)
According to my records, my last account was closed on 01/10/24 so I opened on 02/24/25 with a Valpak $600 coupon. I was surprised to see from online portal that 53 Bank has 01/28/24 as my last closing date, meaning I might not meet the 13 months no account requirement. Was a little worried but glad to receive my $600 bonus today, two days after transferring in $3,010 from Ally.
I would be curious to know what your EWS report says for your prior account closing date.
Honestly, I suspect they 13 month churn rule is really only just words, and it's actually still set to 12 months internally.
Anyone have recent luck with transfers resulting in credit? I signed up but figured out I won't be able to do the direct deposit.
@guest_2025358 In my experience, 5/3 is the easiest of the banks to fulfill DD. I've used Chase biz (standard transfer), Fidelity brokerage, and Wells Fargo (most recently used in May). They pay so quickly that you can test multiple.
Thanks, I am trying Fidelity and I'll report back to everyone
Fidelity transfer worked
Does 5/3 have a bonus tracker?
Any info on Citibank accepted DD? Thank you!
There's a comment search box just above the first comment (search for citi) -- there's no tracker but the bonus pays out quickly so you have plenty of time to try diff methods
$600 bonus DD
2/22/25: opened account
3/6/25: +3001 DD from work bonus
3/7/25: +600 account bonus
Does anyone know if they claw back bonus if the funds are emptied? Can i use or move these at any point now that they've posted?
Nope, you might get a call from the branch but no penalties :)
