Fifth Third has launched a new credit called ‘Fifth Third Preferred Cash/Back Card‘, this card offers the following:
- 2% cash back on all purchases
- No sign up bonus
- No annual fee
Not really that interesting in terms of signing up directly but might be interesting for people with a Fifth Third card already that want to product change it to a 2% card.
Hat tip to reader Andrew D
That bank issues other 2% cashback card for Private Bank clients only: Fifth Third Private Bank World Elite Mastercard card. No AF.
I just called Fifth Third. I currently both their Truly Simple and the Trio. The CSR just told me that they don’t do product changes or upgrades. I would have to apply outright. She profusely apologized. She sounded like she had been through this a few times already. 😩😩🤬😂
You have to have an eligble checking account. The eligble checking account is the Preferred checking account which requires a relationship balance of $100K which can be through any combination of checking, savings, or brokerage.
Great card for those already in Fifth Third’s preferred program. I am a fan of having all my main accounts under 1 roof.
As a 2% CB, No FTF, No AF, MasterCard, this actually makes it a great option. Puts it in same spot as Sofi 2% credit card, I think. (If you didn’t want to do the PayPal MasterCard and couldn’t get the synchrony 2% MasterCard). There are other similar cards that are Visa, but people like to have MasterCard abroad as well.
Unless you can get Ollo Optimum 2.5%.
I think you missed the Citi DoubleCash. How are these better?
Double Cash has a 3% foreign exchange fee, so it’s a garbage card if traveling internationally (or even if making a purchase from an online merchant that isn’t based in the US; I run into this pretty frequently when buying games from GOG, which is in Poland).
PPCM (Paypal Cashback Mastercard), this Fifth Third card, and the Ollo do not have an exchange fee. The CapitalOne Quicksilver earns at only 1.5% but also has no forex, so even it would be a better pick than the DC in these scenarios.
I already have Penfed Power cash rewards card, which has the same 2% with no FTF (with Access America checking). It has a signup bonus as well. Though, it does not have any cellphone protection.
Available exclusively for Fifth Third customers with an eligible checking or savings account.
::Yawn::
The only interesting part is no FTF. Throw me a sign up bonus, I might go for it.
Credit pull even for existing bank customers?
Why is it a surprise?
If you use Amex exclusively, it would come as a surprise I imagine.
slightly better that the citi DC just because of the cellphone protection and no foreign transaction fees
SoFi card would be the better choice
