First Tech Federal Credit Union & Digital Credit Union (DCU) To Merge

First Tech Federal Credit Union has announced that it will be merging with Digital Credit Union (DCU) pending approval by NCUA. Readers will be familiar with both credit unions due to sign up bonuses offer by First Tech and referral bonus/0% APR deals offered by DCU.

  • First Tech are a bunch of bozos. They have several branches and ATMs on my employer's campus. They were my primary financial institution when the merger with Addison Avenue went through. That was a disaster with the tech stacks for each being down for days at a time. You couldn't even go into a branch to make a transaction let alone use the website.

I had a bunch of fun with them last year, when their ATM ate my cash deposit that I was intending to deposit at another CU. It took weeks to sort out.

My advice to DCU members is to find another credit union and close your accounts before the merger goes through.

  • i love DCU. first tech blows. hard pull for membership then denied me for credit card. during recon, i remember the rep was not nice at all. never bother with them again. dcu shower me with pre approvals ever since i became a member. but i’m just loving their 6% saving account. lol

  • Hmm...Fidgital Federal. It does have a ring to it...or not?? Lol...have a blessed rest of your day!!

  • No more yearly 0% apr offers. Should have know something was up when they only offered a low apr % this year. Discover buyout might stop their 0% offers too. Oh well, hopefully another bank or cu will step up.

  • "The name of the combined credit union will be First Technology Federal Credit Union, or First Tech for short."
I'm no branding expert but that's surprising they wouldn't prefer DCU

    • First Tech was the CU that its reps gave me conflicting answers on whether or not DDs from S.S. would qualify for the $300 Checking bonus. One rep said "Yes", one rep said "No, it must be payroll from your job". I ended up closing the account before my DDs from S.S. were deposited. They're the only F.I. that I know of that doesn't like DDs from S.S.

        • Before I opened the account with First Tech, I called them (the edict of "Don't Call The Bank" doesn't apply here) to ask if DDs from S.S. will qualify for the bonus, and the rep said "Yes". So I opened the account then send C.S. a message asking them to confirm that, but the rep replied "No". Since a written response carries more weight than a verbal response, I decided to close the account. There was another offer from another bank for $250 that required DDs during the same period, I chose to do that instead. A guaranteed $250 is better than an "iffy" $300. @guest_1922159 @guest_1922165 @guest_1922144
