- Purchase two Vanilla Visa gift cards and receive a $5 Walgreens gift card free.
Make sure to bring up to the cashier both your Balance Rewards card and a Walgreens gift card to load the $5 onto. Also, print out the ad and show it to the cashier before purchasing.
Vanilla Visa cards at Walgreens can be loaded with up to $500 and have a $4.95 activation fee. Note that not all Walgreens locations are good about allowing you to pay with a credit card for Visa gift card purchases.

- Vanilla Visa Gift cards are tough to unload at Walmart, but you can use them to load your Redbird card at Target. The PIN is any 4 digits you choose.
- Limit 2 per person. (I.e. 4 Visa gift cards for two $5 free Walgreens gift cards.)
Our Verdict
This deal has come around several times recently (in May and June). This is a great way to subsidize your fees for manufactured spend. My issue here is that my local Walgreens doesn’t always allow Visa gift cards to be purchased with a credit card and it’s not worth my time going in only to be shot down by the cashier.
If your local Walgreens it okay with credit cards this can be worthwhile. Be sure to use  a credit card which has a bonus earning at drugstores like the Old Blue Cash.

how exactly does the balance rewards card work… is it reloadable? or do I need a new card for every transaction (i.e. for every $5 bonus load)?
if I do 2 qualifying transactions, can I put the $5 from each on the same BR card? … can I use my prev BR card that I already have?
I have a nice WG around here that will lemme do as many transactions as I want. but dont wanna get several of these low denom BRs to keep track. if I can combine them all, that’d be very helpful to ‘liquidate’ em in the future.
Not sure if they’ll let you combine all the gift cards onto one.
Why do we need to bring the Better Balance Rewards Card?
I think the BBR card is the store card and the gift card is a separate thing.
While very few Walgreens around here allow to use CC for GC they all have one thing in common: you can only purchase 1x $500 GC a day. I don’t know if they let you buy more of the smaller denomination cards and I don’t know how they enforce it (maybe with DL swipe like CVS) but I know that I can’t buy more than 1 $500 Vanilla at a time… YMMV like always of course
