Our Verdict
Can purchase online for in store pick up. Personally I hate doing rebates like this as I always seem to mess them up/forget about doing it. Thankfully I’m in the financial position I can just avoid doing these, but for others some free oil could be extremely helpful so here we are.

Just a DP: Purchased 1 May, just over $60 w/ tax. I did not do any other discount or portal, as I would be afraid they would find a reason to deny the claim under the cannot be combined clause.
Tried multiple times to submit the rebate online – said to wait at least 7 days IIRC for the receipt to be in their system. (It appeared that it would not take my Register number of “XML”, maybe because I ordered online and then picked up in store?)
Mid May – Contacted rebate support via chat at least 2x to ask why online submission wouldn’t work, and all they did was tell me to submit via mail.
Made copies, scanned, and then Mailed 5/22.
Contacted them in early June… said wait 8-10 weeks, rebate was not in the system yet.
Contacted them in Mid July. Turns out they entered my email address incorrectly. I find out they marked it as invalid in early June, but of course, no notification was made since they had my email address incorrect. They could not tell me what the problem was, why it was rejected, and said they would reprocess. They had to escalated it to a different dept.
After that, I check with them every 7-10 days to see if there is a new status.
Last week, I get a system generated email, and they created a new tracking number. It’s finally showing in their system under the new number, now under the Pep Boys “customer appeasement” program. I contacted them to get the status this week. Response: Wait 8-10 weeks for the rebate to be mailed.
I concur with @will’s verdict: only do these offers if you have a ton of patience and enjoy getting the run-around. 3 months of dicking around with this and still not even got confirmation of payout. If it goes the distance, I won’t get my rebate until end of October, if at all.

First time on the oil rebate, so now to see if I can get it again in another rebate window
I bought the oil, tried to submit the rebate online, and am told “please submit valid receipt information.”
Their POS systems can generate three different types of receipts, and mine is the indecipherable type. What a gigantic cluster. Guess I’ll have to mail this one in, the old fashioned way and hope for the best. The processor is formerly known as Parago so it’s got a good reputation.
Why not try their chat feature before mailing. I had trouble submitting online also so chatted with them and he took the information and submitted it for me giving me a tracking number to follow up with.
Placed online order for in-store pick up on 3/2

Went to store 3/3. Store had nothing in stock and told me they only received shipments once a week and they don’t usually carry Shell oil…
By far the worst pickup experience ever… who sends out a “your order is ready” email when there’s not even a single bottle of the product in store
Has anyone received an email from them saying your order is ready to be picked up and you actually got the oil? Placed my order on 2/28 and got the email stating the order has been received and should be ready by 3/1/21 (yesterday) but since then, have heard nothing.
Called the local sore and no one picks up, called their customer support line and have been on hold for over 1 1/2 hours, emailed them and no response, sent them a message on both Facebook and Twitter and no response.
UPDATE: Finally got the pickup email saying the order is ready today so went to the store and it wasn’t ready but they were able to grab the oil off the rack. After getting a 10% military discount and tax, the total with the rebate will be a +$1.07 I’ll make.
Also found a way to submit the rebate form online so would think it should alleviate some of the problems in getting the rebate if sending by mail (can’t get lost).
Pep boys does not payoff on their rebates. You have been warned.
