Update 8/15/22: Reader Barry lets us know that this app is not allowing cash outs anymore (apparently going out of business?)

The Offer
The Freebird app offers rewards when you book Uber rides through their app. They’ve increased the rewards greatly now with offers to most major grocery stores and pharmacies and the like.
Our Verdict
We’re hearing you can get like $2 per ride which is pretty nice, check your Freebird app to see what offers you have and which stores you have offers for.
Hat tip to reader Ryan Goldstein
This company was austin based and focused on the austin market, they had popup events giving out $5 starbucks cards if you’d sign up for their app and show them that you’d made an account. In ATX they’d even give you $2 for riding home on Lime and Bird.
They had a bunch of bars lined up to give you cash back on rides to their location, which seemed like a pretty good idea assuming the bar provided a kickback- sounds like they just burned through their cash and weren’t sustainable. It was a pretty cool idea though. RIP freebird, thanks for the coffee.
Yeah, they had lots of promotions and saved me a good amount of money on Uber/Lyft. They already seemed unprofitable, and pandemic probably just killed whatever they had left. It was a good idea and it was a very consumer-friendly app/startup for the most part. Press F to pay respects.
I asked their support about it two weeks ago and they confirmed Freebird was indeed going out of business.
Pre-pandemic they were great! Navigation was a little off for pickups but otherwise I used it all the time when taking uber/lyft.
Were you able to cash out? Their support rep Taylor isn’t answering my question or giving me options, just keep saying that they’re no longer in business.
I was just now
Still not able to cash out for me
Showing 2$ Instant cash back if I take a ride to any of the CVS, Kroger’s or publiX in my area
Freebird seems to be losing money. If you change the destination on the Uber/Lyft app, you still get the reward. I’d never invest in such a company.
Do you have any stock picks for us Jenny? lol
