Frontier has announced a number of positive changes:

It’s a bit funny that they are proudly announcing phone support when they recently got rid of it only to reinstate it as a new benefit.

I’m trying to understand why this is considered a positive change. Is it not true that all this means is that we will lose the option of paying the ultra- low fares and taking only a personal item? So for anyone who doesn’t need more than a personal item- or even a family with kids that doesn’t need a checked bag for every kid (eg a family of 4 who can get by with 2 checked bags total) – this is going to mean a significant price increase, with only a small savings for people who always bring one luggage/carry-on per person. What am I missing?
They still have cheaper “basic fares” without a carry-on.
It doesnt say that their lowest fare options go away, just that they are adding other options?
People know so little about Frontier that even the Doctor of Credit has been a bit hoodwinked by these supposedly “positive changes.” There really is no difference in Frontier’s fares or policies. The only “improvement” is how they’re DISPLAYED. Previously, you had to make a few more clicks to see how much that carry-on bag might cost you. Now, you can get this and other ancillary fare information a bit faster. The belief is that Frontier changed the display to comply with the new DOT rulemaking on fare quotes. Some people have noticed that, in some markets, Frontier’s base fare plus carry-on is now a bit cheaper than it used to be. This seemed inevitable as they were adding like $120 round trip for a carry-on, which is kind of nuts. We’ll see how it ultimately shakes out. Keep in mind that Frontier is, in general, a low quality airline, and making connections is particularly perilous as they often only offer infrequent service and may not help you much if you miss your connecting the flight.
Yep, so generous of Frontier to make the DOT changes a couple months in advance.
Have never flown on Frontier. How does it compare to the other budget airlines?
I think the staff in the Bay Area atleast is friendlier than Spirit and has some better routes too
It sucks unless you enjoy being stranded.
In a word: horrible.
Its OK, but mostly use for 2-3 hour flights.
They spent 15 minutes pitching their credit card on the last flight and that was frustrating
Turd polishing 101
The best thing I ever did was the Frontier status match. Free luggage and the exit row. Booked many $50 fares and got to every place on time.
hope they will offer another SM later this yr; as my Spirit’s Gold status will expire EoY
If you’re paying 50 bucks, you must be flying on the weekend. I typically pay between $19 and $39 as a Diamond with all that stuff thrown in. Obviously, at that price, if you have some flexibility in your schedule, it’s a great deal. Without these free perks, though, Frontier is rarely a good choice for air travel.
same here I’ve saved a ton on fares with carry-on & premium seating for myself & my spouse for nearly a year now… $99 for Status match well worth it… I’ve taken 12 Frontier flights in last 9 months & never had any issues
They almost tanked the entire company by offering commissions to staff for defrauding people at the gate. As satisfying as it would have been for them to go under, less competition is always bad for the consumer so hopefully smarter people are at the controls at Frontier now.
Defrauding people at the gate? You mean holding them to their personal item allowance that the consumer agreed to three times while booking?
It has been pretty well demonstrated that there were some discrepancies in their bag sizers. Also they had a policy at the gate, not published anywhere, of not letting you give your bag a shove into the sizer. So if the bag was oddly shaped at all like a duffel bag with some lumps, they would extort you for the bag fee even if the bag could pretty easily be made to fit in the 7sizer with some minimal effort.
It was a scam through and through.
You know what I hate more than bad company policies? Corporate apologists. Everything everyone else is saying is correct.
For example, I recall one flight where I was flying Frontier, connecting through DEN. No issues whatsoever boarding at ONT. Suddenly this same bag is too large (as if it put on weight during the first flight) so they want $99. Keep in mind this is a laptop backpack I have been flying with for twenty years without issue, too, not even with other ULCCs. That is, until their contractors started those shenanigans.
Similar nonsense happened at BDL a couple weeks later. Going through TSA, there’s a minor detail that needs to be corrected so I have to go back to the check-in counter. However, I’d already stuffed my jacket in my bag, simply because it’s easier to keep track of everything that way than letting things ride loose in the bins. Anyway, instead of being helpful, the douche bag at the ticket counter (again, not at the gate) starts giving me a hard time about my bag, even though I explained that it’s only briefly oversized. The point being, you didn’t even need to be at the gate for them to try to hustle passengers.
There’s a reason F9 has more complaints than any other airline (according to US DOT).
Shoutout to the Biden administration for pushing these companies to be more transparent with fees!
The world has flipped upside down when the low cost carriers are going in a pro-consumer direction and the legacy carriers are doing the opposite.
Spirit also announced no change or cancellation fees
but flight credits on Spirit expires after only 90 days, unless it’ll change to 1 yr to match
Unlikely. At least for a while. Frontier made their changes first
I stand corrected
Spirit already announced that the flight credit will expire after a full year.
Spirit I believe unilaterally removed the fees. Frontier, you will still have to pay the upcharge from basic fare, they just will now call it a different class instead of a refundable fare.
