Frontier Makes Changes To Elite Program (Now Live)

Update 1/14/24: Changes now live.

Frontier has announced changes to its elite status program for 2024. Changes are as follows:

  • Introduction of silver status at 10,000 miles.
    • No change/cancel fees
    • Priority boarding for whole party
    • Free standard seat at booking
    • Every $1 spent earns 12 miles
  • Earning rates changing (previous you earned 1 mile per 1 mile flown):
    • 10x miles per $1 spent for those without elite status
    • 12x miles per $1 spent for silver status
    • 14x miles per $1 spent for gold status
    • 16x miles per $1 spent for platinum status
    • 20x miles per $1 spent for diamond status
  • Fast track status:
    • Flights from now until December 31, 2023 earn 1 mile per mile flown plus miles based on status above.
    • Frontier cardholders earn gold status for 2024 when you spend $3,000 from now until February 29, 2024

New earning rates will be worse for people that are booking cheap tickets (and that’s the main reason people will fly Frontier in the first place). Most people won’t care about these changes but maybe a few readers chase Frontier status.

I have platinum/50k matched from IHG in December.
I see several positives
Free checked bag
Free agent assistance
Free carryon for e/o

Only negative I see is used to get premium seating at booking for e/o now only for status member.

Lol, “free agent assistance” is a platinum benefit.

Has anyone been able to use the new benefits? Not sure how to nominate someone for Gold

Last month I had to fly from Des Moines to Las Vegas. There was a three hour layover in Denver to change planes. They wanted $135.

So just out of curiosity, I looked at booking each leg of the trip independently, separate trips but same flights DSM to DEN, then DEN to LAS. $19 plus $19 =$38. Makes perfect sense for Frontier.

A general caution, be careful when booking connecting flights on Frontier. A couple of months ago I sat next to a guy who didn’t pay attention to the time of his connecting flights. He got stuck overnight at the Denver airport because Frontier considers a 14 hour layover to be a “connecting flight”. He thought he had 2 hours between flights, but it was 14 hours because he didn’t realize the next flight was AM, not PM.

Serious Question –

So if I do a Status Match now (Hilton Diamond so I’d get Elite 50k don’t have any airline status) will that convert automatically to Gold in January?

I’m asking because AFAIK right now Elite 50k gets not bags, no seats, nothing except extra earnings which I don’t care about. But bags and choosing seats that’s worth a couple hundred for me as I travel with the wife and kids.

Elite 50K gets free seat and carry on bag for you only. I suspect if you are 50K elite, you will move to platinum. I am in the same boat as you as far as whether or not I want to do status match. I had 100K during pandemic and I enjoyed the group getting bags and seats. This makes me want to do status match for ’24 now. Unless I am missing something.

What’s there to suspect? The image shown by DoC (of 2024 Elite levels) makes it 100% clear that the 2024 Platinum level is the renamed version of the 2023 50K Elite level. Am currently 50K Elite and fully expect to be Platinum in 2024.

2024 Platinum Elite, in addition to getting a free carry-on bag (which is included w/ 2023 Elite 50K), will also be entitled to a free checked in-bag (and includes everyone on your booking), as well as a free carry-on pet. Can that be turned into a pseudo companion pass? :-p

2024 Platinum Level, in my opinion, is almost the same as 2023 Elite 100K, except that airfare isn’t fully refundable (a decent perk for 100K Elite). Elite 100K may also be allowed to board before Elite 50K, but the difference is negligible. Both Elite levels get to board well before the plebs, when space should still be wide-open for carry-on luggage. 😉

You’re correct, when going to the statusmatch.com website today, it shows I will have 50K for the rest of the year and then platinum for ’24

Need advice if I should take 100K / Diamond status match by as I have Southwest Companion Pass till Feb 24 (wont be able to qualify again) – the fees for the same is $150. I am based in Raleigh and RDU airport does have flights/routes services from Frontier.. though I have never flown the airline. For my work travel, it would be Delta or United mostly (only have silver status with them).. I have been using Southwest for business/personal travel this year owing to companion pass and flexibility however that will change post Feb 2024. Is frontier worth trying for 2024 for travelling once in 2-3 months with benefits of Diamond/100K status?

Was at least glad to see my Frontier Status Match from a month ago wasn’t devalued (100k), and if anything I gained the perk of gifting Gold status. So, good by me.

Also, Frontier adding Gold Status with their Mastercard (3k spend) is a first as far as I know for an Ultra Low Cost carrier tying adding a bag to their CC. I would say a welcome change if they add a bonus amount along with the Gold status in the future. It would be something Spirit would need to compete with, but Spirit probably won’t exist much longer.

This is a complete gut of their program. Who is going to spend $10K on Frontier flights, which is almost what’s required for the major carriers? That seems impossible at their rates. With mileage-based earning, this was possible with cheap mileage runs and people doing coast-coast flights. But with a spend-based program, they should have dropped the requirements significantly in my opinion.

I’d suggest another 30% lower in order to make this reasonable.

You status match the executive platinum status you gamed from AA

I did a status match to 100k from 100 AS and fly from DEN to SEA for $25 one-way. At least, when AS is too greedy. I have no problem flying Frontier for 2 hours if it saves me $100+ one way per person. You get what you pay for. At least Frontier departs on time, which I can’t say the same about AS which has 50-80% of flights from DEN delayed.

“Priority Customer Care”

At least two words are wrong here.
