The Offer
- Receive a sign up bonus of $200 when you open a new Regions checking account with the promotional code ‘200SOC’ and complete the following requirements within 60 days of account opening:
- Make ten purchases with Visa checkcard
- Make a qualifying direct deposit of at least $500
$50 Referral Bonus
There is a $50 referral bonus, but both the $200 bonus and $50 bonus say that offers cannot be combined. In previous promotions people were able to get this added to their offer regardless. I’d recommend reading the comments on this post for more information. I’d recommend opening the account first with the $200 bonus and then adding the referral information later, although there is still some risk
The Fine Print
- Offer valid in select markets only; including Atlanta, GA, Jacksonville, FL, Miami, FL, Orlando, FL, Tampa, FL, New Orleans, LA, Indianapolis, IN, Charlotte, NC, Raleigh-Durham, NC, Nashville, TN, Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, and Austin, TX
- The offer is available only to the person who has registered and is non-transferable [I assume you register by opening online with the promotional code or getting them to send you the code for an in branch offer]
- $200 bonus offer may not be combined with any other offer, does not apply if you have or had a Regions checking account on or after August 1, 2015, only applies to personal LifeGreen checking accounts, and may be withdrawn at any time without notice
- If earned, the bonus will be issued within 120 days of meeting these requirements, and will be in the form of a credit to the new checking account, which must be open at the time the credit is issued
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
LifeGreen Checking $8-$10 Monthly Fee
This account can have it’s monthly fee removed if you do any of the following:
- Have an average monthly balance of $1,500 or more
- Receive a single qualifying direct deposit of $500 or more per cycle
- Receive cumulative direct deposits of $1,000 or more per cycle
Early Account Termination Fee
There is a $25 early account termination fee if the account is closed within 120 days, it’s also necessary that the account stays open for the bonus to post.
Our Verdict
There is another $200 + $50 bonus being offered by Regions, for slightly different areas. They have offered a $350 bonus in the past, because of that I’m not adding this to our list of the best bank bonuses as the $350 bonus might come back. That being said this $250 bonus is still pretty attractive and worth considering.
Big thanks to reader, Evolum82 who let us know. Please consider sharing bank bonuses with this site so we can make it even better.

Anyone get their 1099 and can get me the Federal ID Number? I never got mine and that’s all I need.
In the AVOIDING FEES section at the top of this page, it states “There is a $25 early account termination fee if the account is closed within 120 days, it’s also necessary that the account stays open for the bonus to post.” So, is it 120 days or 180 days necessary to keep account open without $25 fee?
Got it—super easy. Ally triggered DD.
Great news for the current promo!
– William can you add this DP to the Regions ACH as DD list?
Done
Was it the Ally MMA?
Well was it????
ALLY checking, Savings or Moneymarket? Which one did you push from?
I don’t know what he used, but I just recently transferred from Ally savings to Regions and it showed up as “P2P ” in the Regions account. Not hopeful for that counting.
Did Ally P2P work?
So if I do a deposit from Ally to regions that will count as a direct deposit
DP: 9/28: When I applied I did $2000 credit card funding (checking+savings, 1k each), using chase freedom unlimited. First attempt set of a fraud alert at chase, I verified, then I believe on the same page (maybe small chance back button) and second attempt went through. Didn’t have minimum spend to hit, but figured hey, free 3000 UR. That card doesn’t have much activity, so sorta expected the fraud alert.
Anyways, because of the decline, it ended up opening 4 accounts, 2 savings / 2 checking. It made it not possible for me to register my online ID for a reason they can’t figure out on their end, and also the second account (funded one) didn’t get set up to auto send debit card (and presumably first one didn’t mail debit card because it’s not funded yet). So 40 minute phone call and they’re going to call me back Tuesday.
So credit card funding worked, from a no cash advanced kinda angle, but definitely has been a pain for ~$30-$60 extra bucks in rewards points.
the appl for bonus is still good thru 9/30/16. just applied & funded $1k with alaska visa cc
does this bonus good for each account or household? if per acct, my wife will too apply. TIA
Just for future reference, since obviously it’s closed now:
From unrelated troubleshooting (multiple account accidentally opened for me), it sounded like it’s oddly per email address on their backend.
Another DP: Chase checking transfer trigged ACH.
Serve triggered ACH fyi. $200 bonus posted really quickly.
Thanks, updated
I just did a transfer from my credit union (Coastal Federal Credit Union in NC) to my Regions Bank checking and it appears to have coded as an A2A transfer. I set up the transfer through my CU online, not through Regions. I can’t find anything about whether A2A could count toward the Direct Deposit requirement or not…only ever seen discussion of ACH transfers. Do you have any feedback on A2A? Thanks!
For further clarification…this is what showed up when I was setting up the bank to bank transfer. A small deposit was made into the Regions account that coded as “Electronic Deposit” and then a small withdrawal was then made that coded as “Coastal A2A Transfer”. So maybe the deposit will still be okay? I went ahead and scheduled transfer of $500 into the account to try and meet the requirement. We’ll see what happens =/
6/7 Opened the account and funded $1000
6/15 went to Chase online and set the regions account as an external account, transferred $500, posted as Ext Trnsfr
7/5 completed 10 check card purchases
7/13 $200 reward posted
Also, because I opened the account in branch, I did not receive the $50 referral bonus although I filled out the information online using my friend’s referral link.
Thanks, added DP
Was it a Personal Checking transfer or a Business Checking?
Hi, where did you see the reward posted or not? Thank you.
Funded 1k with Ink+ and it worked. Now the question is how many days does it take to get the CheckCard? It’s been almost 3 weeks…
