Update this will be ending on April 30th, 2018. I suspect the Hotels.com deal is what is replacing this offer. That isn’t particularly useful as there are other better ways to stack Hotels.com discounts.
The Offer
- Pay your Spotify Premium monthly fee with Capital One Quicksilver credit card and get 50% off the monthly fee.
The Fine Print
- Valid through April 30, 2018
- 50% credit will show on your Quicksilver statement within 1-2 billing cycles
- No enrollment in the offer necessary; simply pay with Quicksilver and you’ll get the credit
- Discount does not apply to annual subscriptions, or when paying with gift cards or digital wallet, or subscriptions made through third parties
Our Verdict
Spotify offers a free service and a paid one. The paid one is $9.99 for a regular Premium plan, $4.99 for a Student Plan, or $14.99 for a Family Plan. Both of these are eligible for the 50% discount by paying with Quicksilver. It’ll either be 11 or 12 payments with the discount before the promotion expires on April 30, 2018.
Assuming 12 payments with the 50% discount, you’ll save $60 on a single plan, $30 on the Student plan, or $90 on the Family Plan over the course of the year. Not bad, though you are losing out a bit on the standard credit card rewards since Spotify earns 5x with INK.
I wouldn’t apply for a Quicksilver for their promos, but if you have one or can product-change to one, this deal can save Spotify subscribers a chunk of money over the course of the year. And the free 3-month trial (below) is nice too.
CapitalOne has previously partnered with Uber to give the 10th ride free; not long after that deal expired they are releasing this one. They seem fixed on staying relevant.
Three-Month Trial Offer
Spotify typically offers a 30-day free trial, but they have a special 3-month trial offer for Capital One cardholders. You can cancel the subscription before the three months are over and won’t pay anything.
This offer is only available to those who signup by November 15, 2017. It’s not valid for those who previously had a Spotify subscription.
Is anybody else getting a 404 Page Not Found when they click the link for the direct offer?
Of course. “This offer is only available to those who signup by November 15, 2017”.
Might be off-topic but I haven’t used my Quicksilver card for a couple years and they sent me an email offering a $100 bonus if I spend 3K in the next 3 months so this maybe targeted. Actually had to call to get a new card sent out as my old card expired at the end of March and they hadn’t sent me a new card yet. Haven’t really done any MS up to this point so I may just use this card for everything the next 3 months to get the bonus and an additional $45 with the 1.5% cash back.
actually got really good value out of the Spotify. $240 free money?
now the best I can find for Spotify is Spotify GC with the SunTrust 5% grocery on first $6000 in spend, bonus 10% when put into a SunTrust account and 4x gas points I value at 14% at Kroger. so 19.5%? Suntrust card is pretty bad but I am not worried about 5/24 since I am 11/24
Sometimes the Suntrust card has a signup bonus. And it’s a mastercard that will get the Fuel Rewards bonus for Grocery for the next few months.
There are worse choices out there.
Crapital One
Can you sign up for the free trial offer and then after the three months, get the 50% off offer?
Doesn’t say one way or the other on the Spotify site but would think you could if you’d continue to pay using Quicksilver after the three months trial.
Thoughts?
no. basically, you can only get 50% off what you pay in April right now, and you can’t prepay future months
which you are better off getting the trial.
Andrew my man, you gotta look at post dates.
“It’ll either be 11 or 12 payments with the discount before the promotion expires on April 30, 2017.”
You meant 2018, right?
Yup, I’ll fix that, thanks
Can’t believe I’m saying this, but after all these years I finally gotta find a way to get a CapitalOne credit card, which I’ve been avoiding since I began churning.
They have some good deals and pulling three bureaus isn’t so bad depending on where you live.
The 20% off Uber deal was amazing. Only reason I still have this card. Still, this will save me $90 for doing nothing.
Disappointing final result compared to the deals they had with Uber.
