The Offer
It’s being reported on Flyertalk that starting tomorrow, March 17, Giant Eagle will be offering 20¢ in Fuel Points on the purchase of ‘Easter Gift Cards’, and it sounds like fixed-value Visa gift cards will be included in this deal.
The Fine Print
- Valid March 17 until March 30
- Fuel points will be valid until 5/31/16 (two full calendar months after purchase)
Our Verdict
Giant Eagle runs promotions periodically. This past week it was for Home Depot, Sears, and Best Buy gift cards (ends 3/16). From March 17 until March 30, it sounds like they will be offering 20¢ on Visa gift cards; check with your local store to see if they are running this offer. See the Fuel Perks FAQ for more details.
Expires tomorrow Will, too late for a new post. Right? This is the only fuel program left in the country worth playing in.
Circular hub has the pic.
It’s running next week as well.
Deal is back for Visa and Mastercard gift cards until 4-19-17.
Thanks
I can’t seem to find the deal anywhere, got a link or picture of the promo?
What the heck? This is sensitive for those of us that live in the GE footprint. Not cool
Unfortunately, he doesn’t care what the locals think. But, at least he listened to Dcatast (conversation elsewhere) and did some editing which helped a little. Local things should remain local. This is not a national chain but a very localized entity. Besides, they already mail ads to the locals so putting it on forums or blogs is unnecessary and only brings problems for the locals. I understand many ms blogs are hurting for material to talk about so this was probably a result of that. DOC is pretty good overall so this mistake can be forgiven.
Agreed – haven’t we lost enough grocery stores this quarter……stop this.
I think this is a good deal. If you just look at the $6.95 fee for the $200 card, you only need to buy 8.68 gallons to break even and just about everyone can get that much gas. To make the deal even better, you can buy the GC at GetGo (the Giant Eagle gas station) and collect 5% cashback with Discover or 5% with Chase Freedom. Giant Eagle doesn’t have any more fraud that Kroger, Staples, etc., so I think the post is good for those who live in the locations serviced by Giant Eagle.
Please respect OP wishes and remove. Thanks
Agree. The OP removed his/her post from FT and has now requested this removal here. DOC credited the FT post and now that post doesn’t exist. I hope DOC honors OPs request.
Chuck, we talked about this elsewhere. I would never ask to remove something in the public. If OP removed his post on ft and asked you to remove this I will echo that request.
Pittsburgh folks, follow me on Twitter @dcatast
Okay, I edited up the post.
@dcatast – Am I missing something? I don’t see any tweets on your feed newer than 2015. I’m in Pgh East End (moved from CT) and would love to find the P&M community here.
You are not missing any public activity
As the original poster, I’d ask you kindly to remove this. Didn’t realize that this was a sensitive topic. Noob mistake.
It’s not $24 net, but $17.50. And only if you get 30 gallons at one time can you see the full net gain. You lose if only filling up a 17 gallon tank for example. These are a PAIN to liquidate. I know from experience. A better deal is if you simply need a gift card anyhow such as for dining or a store. Avoid ones you need to liquid. You will already need a membership card or no perks. They are also scrutinizing the cc you use and a DL is required to match. Some locations are limiting the amount of ANY kind of GC you buy thanks to too many coming in from reading blogs (particularly the criminals which have been known to read blogs like this). They are carefully watching for fraud. This should have been left to those who already get the ad locally. Putting it on a blog or forum makes it dangerous for the store and will hurt the local customers who already would know about this from the ad they receive. I humbly ask DOC to remove the post about GE. That chain has reported problems and they want the promo only for those getting the ad. They can’t tolerate more and will end up shutting it down. Please consider my request. This is too fragile in a number of ways. I know from employees.
Right, the cost of the gift card will reduce the deal, although I assumed the credit card rewards would partially/totally offset the cost.
You can put 17 gallons in your tank and the remaining 13 gallons in 5 gallon gas cans.
30-gallon is a theoretical value. Usually 10 gallon gas fills up a car. Really hard to max this deal.
Yeah, same here. With small tanks, the deal is worth much less or not worth it at all.
You guys ever hear of gas cans?
