The Offer
Stop&Shop, Giant, Martin’s (ad for 8/21-8/27, page 7)
- Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular for August 21 – August 27:
- Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.
Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.
- You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Our Verdict
Fuel points can be used to discount groceries as well, making these deals more widely useful. They offer these kinds of deals frequently in the summer months. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery.
Note: lately many SS/Giant stores have been limiting us to $2,000 in purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card.
Hat tip to reader Gerald
I earned 0, had to get it added manually, and then they did it as fuel points, so I can’t take advantage of the extra 30 days. Whatever, at least I can use UR points to pay it off
Just bought $2000 gc at S&S but no points rewarded. Talked to store manager and was told it happened to everyone. She speculated it was probably due to the new Go rewards program. She manually added to my account but now they are showing under my gas rewards and not the Go Rewards. I’ll give it a few days to see if it’ll solve itself.
Chuck,
You should really update this since S&S now has Go Rewards. You have 30 days to select Gas or Grocery for the Rewards and then 30 days to use those so it’s really 60 days to use the points now.
“You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)”
Have you actually done it and seen that you get 30 plus 30?
Mine got extended by a week after I converted them to gas, not saying it’s policy, just what I saw
Did you convert the Go a week after buying? If so, that would confirm what I wrote earlier. It’s 30 days after selecting Gas or Grocery.
No, I haven’t converted any of my Go Rewards yet. I was under the impression from other posts I’ve seen that is the new policy. Is it not?
That is how it’s been working for me. (Giant, DC/VA/MD here). Huge for me – I’m using a lot less gas since the pandemic started, but gas is the best-value redemption (as long as you are buying >10 gallons and Shell is competitively priced in your area). Having a total of 60 days to use the points expands the redemption window a lot, and being able to use them for groceries provides a nice fallback.
Yes, I’ve been in the Go points pilot for months
Updated, thanks all
yes – that is exactly how it works. Stated in their ads also
I emailed you some screenshots for a DP
DP: shows Earned 0 on receipt today. They had to add them manually. Anybody else got this? This is for Giant PA
Had the same happen to me at S&S in NJ. Didn’t realize until I got home.
I’ve learned to always check my receipt before leaving the store.
It says it takes 24 hours to appear on your account, I’ve done three so far and had to call all three times. Took about an hour each phone call. Service desk won’t help, they just give you the number, this is in three different stores so it’s not just my regular store not wanting to help.
In my experience the service desk will immediately credit. But it took ages on the phone the one time I did call customer service instead.
I will make sure to check the receipt before leaving the store, like the commenter above said.
GO Points that you earned in a transaction should show up immediately on the receipt.
Right, but it can take some time before they show up online so you can turn them into gas points. I did this on Friday and it took 15 minutes or so, something to keep in mind if you’re going straight from the supermarket to the gas station.
Sorry for being off topic. Stop and shop gift card is out of stock at amazon. Does anyone know if giants gift card works at stop and shop ?
I noticed this over a week ago also. I called CS as I had the same idea as you. The woman told me that Giant gc cannot be used in S&S and vice versa.
She seemed sure but I would imagine someone on DoC has actually tried and can enlighten us.
I have a Giant GC that I bought as a S&S GC from Raise. I has both the Giant and S&S logos on the back, so I’d be very surprised it if doesn’t work at S&S.
I noticed the Giant gc had the S&S logo on it on Amazon. I mentioned that to the rep and she agreed with me that it’s misleading. She reiterated that it wouldn’t work. Of course she could be wrong but she was a supervisor (not just a regular CS rep).
I have successfully used Martins and Stop&Shop gift cards at Giant. However, they may not swipe correctly, so cashiers may have to manually enter the card numbers.
can these store gift cards be used to buy vgc/mcgc?
My flexible rewards did not post on my receipt or on the website immediately. After about 20 minutes, all of the flexible rewards showed up on my account online (2000 points for 2 $500 gift cards).
I also saw the $2000 limit at my local S&S. My question is the maximum you can load is $500 per card right? So how can you complete the $2000 in one transaction? My understanding is you have to load it 4 times (4 x $500) to different gift cards to reach $2000?
Yes, the maximum is $500 per card. You can purchase 4 cards (total of $2000 + fees) in 1 transaction at CS.
Can someone explain the fine print? We will only earn awards on up to $2000 in spend every day?
Where do you see that fine print?
I just saw there was a $2,000 daily limit. It must be done in one transaction with only one credit card.
Not sure where you saw that, but yeah, reports are that SS/Giant now limits $2k in gc purchases per day with a single card. That has nothing to do with fuel points limits – if you somehow convinced a manager to let you buy more than $2k, you’d earn points on the entire purchase or if you go back the next day and buy another $2k, you’ll earn points on both purchases.
Manager at the local Giant says it’s because 2k is the point where they have to do KYC/AML paperwork, which takes up their employees’ time. My location has had a lot of employee turnover recently too, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the new hires don’t know how to do the paperwork and the manager doesn’t want to train them.
3k – 1500 each between the girlfriend and myself – is plenty though. If I wanted to ramp up, I could go before and after each shift change. But liquidation is tough in my area too.
DP: Some stores have been putting on $2k limits on GCs.
I’ll add a note.
