The Offer
Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular:
- Get 2x/3x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.
Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.
- You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.

- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Our Verdict
Given that points can be used to discount groceries as well these deals are more widely useful. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery. Stack with 10% Chase Offer.
Note, many SS/Giant stores have implemented a $1,500 limit in gift card purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card. Also note that some SS/Giant stores now only award points for the first purchase of the deal, so be sure to buy the full $1,500 worth in a single transaction.

Bought 500 Vanilla on Monday. Points did not post even after 3 days. Called and had the points added manually.
Better deal to use your Stop and Shop points for cash back and special offers in the grocery store. This is especially true if you drive a hybrid or EV.
That was quick. I still have points from previous promo – will use them on overpriced groceries as well now in addition to gas. Just have to be prepared to wait for blocked cards to be replaced by mail as was the case with all cards I bought last time.
I just checked my local S&S circular and there is a Vanilla Visa gc 2X promo running from tomorrow through next Thursday.

The ad says “$1500 limit per household “, Is it a daily limit or a limit for the whole advertising week? I bought $1500 card yesterday, is it okay to buy another $1500 today with the promo?
It’s a limit for the week as far as I know.
you can buy more if you have another S&S card, but the limit is enforced per card.
FYI, S&S has Home Depot gift cards at 10X starting tomorrow. If you use the points for 20 gallons of gas, that’s like a 20% discount.
Just a reminder that today is the last day of this deal which now seems to be less frequent than in the past. I was able to do this 4x in NJ for a total of 2K or 6000 Go rewards.
2/3 Vanilla cards I bought in the past 48 hours at Giant in Fairfax (Northern VA) have been silently blocked when attempting any payments (says active at the website). Made sure to buy the $6.95’s with the newer barcode that’s more protective to try to avoid this, but that didn’t help. Only one went through at Pay1040 without issues. I had to call in for a replacement where they confirmed the block, which also happened for a Walmart Vanilla GC a few days ago – so 3/4 total. Not sure why these are even being sold at this point. The 2x points posted within minutes for the 2 separate transactions without issue – so no required to be a single transaction. Did not try going above the $1500 limit in the flyer.
I swore off VV cards for paying taxes after two incredibly frustrating experiences. Just not worth the hassle. Really disappointed that S&S switched to them, since the previous vendor’s cards worked much better.
Same situation in NJ. I thought it was only the older cards affected but 1 of the newer Stop sign cards was also affected and now I have 2 pending replacement – one the older and one the newer batch both of which first transaction went through and subsequent transactions are blocked. Call to replace thankfully was easy.
Same experience here. Bought one at Giant in Northern Virginia. All transactions are getting declined by the card. Even $10 in Target physical store and $14 in Home Depot physical store were declined. The card is active and says that it has $500 in it. Please help with what to do next with it. Which customer service number did you call and which options did you go through if you remember?
Just called the number on the back of the card and chose the prompts for report an issue with the card, and choose replace card.
Did you try after 15mins?
I waited 24 hours before attempting again and calling where they confirmed no dice and that it would need to be replaced.
i always wait overnight (approx 24 h) before checking the balance or using it. just got 4 from central nj last saturday and used it .
Nearby s&s shelves go empty in morning hours from day one and stays empty till deal is over. Are they allowed to do that ?
Other stores treat as if I am doing something illegal. This deal is good but only if you can get the cards. Frustrating. I pay my rent with these to save some money.
