Update 7/16/19: Just a heads up for everyone: points will post properly ONLY with the black Kevlar cards. The other designs will not have the points post properly, and you’ll have to call support to get it credited. (ht reader H-Bomb)
The Offer
Stop&Shop, Giant, Martin’s (not yet showing)
Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their circular for July 12 – July 18:
- Get 3x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases. You can view the ad here until it shows at the links above:
The Fine Print
- Valid 7/12/19 – 7/18/19 (starts Friday)
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
- “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
3x is a nice deal. We’ve been seeing a heavy uptick in gas offers during the warmer months. Remember to use a card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

I’ll add a note, thanks
Do they typically run these later in the year too? i.e. what are the chances this promo will run in august, sept, or october?
Is this working for people? I see a post from Saturday saying that someone did not get the points.
NO points posting. Same as 2 weeks ago with MCGC. had to call in last week for 4500 points. This AM bought 3 VGC and no points. Clerks didnt know how to add them.. So will call next week. At 2nd S&S bought 4 500VGC and also no points, but rep was able to add 6k points. Best to wait a few days. Their software techs seem not to set up the system correctly. I figured it would be fixed since this happened 2 weeks ago. But calling in is ok too,but a waste of time when it should be correct to start with.
Is it for ALL visa gift card or specific Visa debit card ?
Should work on all of the standard Visa gift cards.
Chuck Last promotion I didn’t get gas points when I bought a Sunrise Bank one but worked fine on the Metabank in the same transaction. The receipt and activation slip said: “KEVLR VAR” on the Sunrise and “VISA KEVLAR VAR” on the five Metabank that I bought throughout the promo that earned gas points no problem. All six were the same black packaged ones. These were at S&S in MA
Hmm, I wasn’t aware they carried two separate versions.
I live in PA. Is the gas in Giant PA top tier (contains detergent)?
No, full list here: https://www.toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/
Just go to a shell station
Walmart , no longer allows Money orders or Billpay ,in No Va, how does one empty those VGC ?
I just spend them places that have no category bonus. I also use them to make quarterly tax payments (since the debit card fee is much lower than the credit card fee)
Look beyond Walmart
And where would that be?
Thanks as always for the heads up
