What To Do If GiftCardRescue Owes You Money

In case you didn’t know, GiftCardRescue has closed down but many people that have sent them giftcards are still waiting on their payments to come through. GCR still hasn’t filed for bankruptcy though and the Maryland Attorney’s General Office seems to be the best place to file a complaint currently. Reader John K received the following e-mail after filing a complaint with them:

Please be advised that the business is not out of business. Despite this, you should file a complaint with our office as they are working with our office to try to either return gift cards or refund monies to as many persons as possible and this will allow our office to follow up on your complaint. To file a complaint, simply go to the website at http://www.oag.state.md.us and choose the option on the right hand side for File a Consumer Complaint. This will lead you to instructions on how to file a complaint. The complaint forms are on the left hand side. A General Complaint form should be used.

Obviously this is no guarantee that you will get the full amount owing (or the gift cards owed to you) from GiftCardRescue, but I suspect that people that are pro-active and file complaints with the Attorney General’s office will have a better chance of recouping their lost funds than those who don’t. If anybody else has any other suggestions, feel free to share them in the comments.

I know this is a really old post, but I didn’t see this post until now. GCR was supposed to pay me $300 for some giftcards I sold, does anyone know if I can still file a claim?

Any legal experts here, should we be filing in small claims courts individually against the company or is this just dead in the water?

Just saw this on some court searches – looks like he’s having wages garnished to a tune of nearly $700k from this one. Another case pending in Cecil Co.

Got a letter from the Maryland AG that says they can’t do anything for victims because they can’t find the principles. Anyone get a different outcome?

A Columbia-based company owes customers more than $13,000 and the business does not have a plan to pay them, the Better Business Bureau says.

Hi John, when you filed the complaint
What address did you use? Old dobbin lane, Columbia? or the other one with Ellcott City?

Thanks!

Thus far, the Maryland OAG has been extremely professional and responsive. I’ve sent several emails to clarify and request updates, and each time I’ve received a timely and informative response. After I faxed my supporting documents I asked for confirmation that my case was being reviewed. I received that confirmation in less than 1 business day. Hoping they are as effective at collecting and mediating as they are at running their office.

Just sent a complaint. Got all my documentation together; they owe me $445 or $500 worth of BP and Exxon gift cards!
Hopefully I can get at least a portion of it.
