Google Class Action $135 Million Settlement (Used Android Device From Nov 12, 2017 To Current)

It’s alleged that Google caused Android phones to transfer information to Google using users data without users permission. Google has denied any wrongdoing but has agreed to a $135 million settlement.

Who Is Eligible?

You’re eligible if:

“you are: (1) a natural person in the United States who (2) has used a mobile device running the Android operating system with a cellular data plan, (3) at any time from November 12, 2017 to the date this Settlement receives final approval, and (4) you are not a class member in Csupo v. Google LLC, Santa Clara County Superior Court, No. 19CV352557, which is a similar lawsuit involving residents of California. If this describes you, you may be able to receive money from this Settlement.”

You should have received notice if you are eligible and it may be possible to e-mail any e-mail addresses you use during this time to [email protected] to confirm eligibility if notice wasn’t received. Many readers had their notice sent to spam.

You can check to see if you received it:

  • Subject line: Class Action Notice of Settlement – Taylor v. Google LLC, Case No. 5:20-CV-07956-VKD (N.D. Cal.)
  • Email from: [email protected]

How Much?

Settlement pool is $135 million, but that also must cover ‘(2) notice and administration costs; (3) attorneys’ fees, costs, and expenses; (4) service awards to the class representatives, and (5) taxes incurred by the Settlement Fund’. No estimate has been given but I’d expect it to be low given the potential class size (100 million).

Important Dates

  • May 29, 2026: Objection & exclusion deadline
  • June 23, 2026 at 10:00 AM PDT: Final approval hearing

Our Verdict

Again I suspect the settlement to be low given the potential class size but sometimes these surprise me and unless you’re planning to exclude yourself and seek your own legal action I don’t see any huge reasons not to participate. Some other Google class actions:
