Our Verdict
Let the games between Amazon & Walmart continue! If you shop at Walmart this seems like a pretty good and easy way to get 20% off. They have been pushing discounts hard recently:
I just got sent a 25% coupon
Walmart went live on the 25th but there was no notification from Google or discount.
This is really sad i used to love google express, I bought all non perishable items from costco via google express, some items went to the roof, why why why
They definitely raised the prices for Costco via Google Express. When I compared them a few months ago, the in store price and Google Express price were the same; not any more. Here are some examples: Kirkland Signature Pecan Halves -2lb bag $15.69 on 5/7 Google Express order, now it’s $18.74. Kirkland Signature Casual Dining Napkins 4/260 Count – $8.49 on 5/7 Google Express order, now it’s $11.04.
See a clear increase in costco prices in my cart after the announcement…google express is trying to ripoff !
Kirkland Grape Seed Oil – 2 L bottle
$9.67 Was $7.99
Dave’s Killer Bread, 21 Whole Grains and Seeds – 2 loaves, 54 oz bag
$7.59 Was $6.99
Mary’s Gone Original Organic Crackers – 20 oz box
$5.78 Was $4.99
Kirkland Signature Antiseptic Mouth Rinse, Ice Mint – 3 pack, 1.5 L bottles
$9.87 Was $7.59
Yes, Costco prices on Google Express are for sure higher than at local Costco store. Also, FYI Costco.com prices are higher than local Costco store. I have compared many prices on line and at local store.
Sure they give you the Costco coupon discounts on line (both Google Express and Costco.com) but the prices are higher than in store.
Even with Costco Membership the prices on line are higher.
You’re saying the exact same item that is available both at Costco.com and at a Costco store might be higher at Costco.com? Has your experience been with items that have a coupon/discount in-store or other items also?
Can anyone else corroborate this? Is this only a Costco thing?
I second duke5150. Costco.com >= Costco Google Express >= Costco warehouse.
Seems that Target.com == Target Google Express. But I didn’t buy anything other than from costco.
The last Google Express promo I used Costco prices passed through, even the coupon prices passed through.
Unlike Boxed
Google Express has been DOA for years now. In the age of Amazon Prime, Postmates, Instacart and countless other same day, immediate delivery services, Google Express thinks anyone cares about scheduling delivery from local stores several days out, and for a higher per item cost than shopping in store.
Only company they seem to be competing with at this point is Shoprunner, which is free with American Express cards and no price inflation.
The prices are set by the vendor. Thus they can be different for any item and you wouldnt know it without price comparing the websites. https://support.google.com/express/answer/4559805?hl=en
Does anyone know if you still earn the Citi Costco 2% + Costco exec 2% via Google Express?
Amee above is saying the prices are inflated via Google Express. Has anyone else noticed this?
Prices are inflated by 10% if you don’t have a membership. My last Costco order showed the prices for the stuff I usually buy. I guess someone could go to Costco and compare in-store prices with the Google Express app to be certain.
I haven’t noticed higher prices, especially since I buy the same items that I bought in-store.
