Google Fi Gift Card Promotion Issues

Last year Google Fi offered what was close to the deal of the year where you could get a full gift card rebate on a phone purchase up to $999. The promotion proved so popular that Google Fi had to scramble to change the offer terms. Since then most people have received the gift card and the best thing is that they can be redeemed at your own pace. Unfortunately the promotion did not run smoothly for everybody, some who participated in the deal are being denied the gift cards with Google claiming that the ported number was ineligible for the deal. In many cases this is despite Google Fi confirming that those numbers were eligible for the deal.

It looks to be predominately people with Google voice numbers that ported in that are being denied, in our original post we note that Google voice numbers were accepted as satisfactory numbers. If this issue is affecting you please let us know in the comments below, along with as much detail as you can share. The best discussion of this issue currently seems to be in the Google support forums.

Same boat here. Been a project fi customer right from the begining. Order Pixel 3 XL at 7:24PM. Talked to an agent who confirmed that I will get the credit and now the promo team denies it. This seems like a scam. Is there any way we could sue Fi?

Google Fi devised yet another lie to cheat their way out of this promotion: these scumbags now claim they have no record of my Pixel 3 order, despite my forwarding them my order and promotion eligibility confirmation emails from my Gmail inbox. A class action lawsuit is our only resort.

Good news! Fi Promo team is getting through the cases – just received an email stating that I will be receiving the travel voucher in about 2 weeks as a one-time exception. I submitted proof of GV accounts 6 days ago. Today is the 100th day since I activated. Hang in there if you guys are in the same boat. They’re getting to you soon.

How did you prove the date you got the GV number? When I go into the GV site, all I see is the new GV number I got since porting the old number.

I am another victim of Google trying to scam their customers. Ported a perfectly good GV # from 2017 and am now deemed ineligible. I started a claim with customer service that has since been escalated. I have no faith in Google’s customer service so I have started a chargeback with Amex. I also plan to file a chargeback for the monthly charges.

Nick, could you please keep us posted? I am in the same boat and it is <7 days away from 11/28/2018 + 120 days so I am planning on disputing the charges also with AMEX. Thank you

If you haven’t received the gift card and were supposed to, make sure to leave feedback on the google community forums: https://support.google.com/fi/thread/643233

May help push the issue along

Same here. Submitted proof of GV number age last week after getting the same email Mehertz got. Been chatting/emailing them everyday since to get status update. No response yet from the promotion team.

This is the email I got from google support. As a side note, I’ve had my google number for years.

“Your case has been escalated to the Google Fi Promotions Team regarding your questions about eligibility for the “Travel on Fi with Any Device Purchase” promotion that was ongoing Nov 28th 12:00 AM – 7:00 PM PT.

After reviewing your account, it looks like you were deemed ineligible due to the age of the number you transferred to Google Fi. This promotion requires that the number ported in during sign-up needs to pre-date 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.

If you would like, we’d be happy to take a deeper look into this for you. Could you please provide the following information:
What Google Account did you transfer the Google Voice number from?
Are you the owner of this account?
If so, please send us a screenshot showing ownership of the number. This screenshot will need to show your Name, Date (prior to 8/28/19), Google Account, and Phone Number.”

That’s the standard thing they ask for. Upon submission of the evidence, wait about 3 to 4 days and you’ll get a follow up message telling you how busy they are.
My husband sent his screenshot and info in Sunday. Today he got a message that amounted to we’re very busy sorry for the delay. 4 business days to send out a note saying wait some more and no acknowledgement that the reason they are behind is because they botched enough of these that it could cause one.

Following up on this thread. Has anyone heard any news one way or another on their claim yet?

Still waiting on the promotions team to get back to me. I imagine many people are in that boat. Hopefully they just come to their senses and realize their mistake.

There are people posting in the thread on slickdeal that their submissions are accepted and they are getting a “one time exemption” and their travel cards.

Most people are waiting, but a couple have been told they were getting the cards. Neither of them to my knowledge has reported getting the link yet.

Even I have not received my gift card even though my voice account predates August 28
