Update: You’re not limited to buying one gift card instead of two.
I’m reposting this because the Stockpile gift cards can be redeemed for third party gift cards such as Target. If you purchase $40 in Stockpile gift cards you’ll pay $16. You’d earn another $1.28 by going through a portal. Basically pay $15 for $40 in giftcards, incredible deal.
The Offer
Direct link to offer (our affiliate link. Don’t forget you could go through a shopping portal to get 8% cash back instead)
- Groupon is selling a $20 Stockpile gift card for $10
- You can also get another 20% off on Groupon by using the promo code EXTRA20 bringing the total to $8
The Fine Print
- Promotional value expires Mar 31, 2018. Amount paid never expires. All voucher sales final. Limit 1 per person, may purchase 1 additional as a gift
Our Verdict
Stockpile is a website that lets you buy gift cards that are redeemable for stock. These might make fun gifts, looks like you’re limited to purchasing two (one for yourself and one for another person). See our previous coverage of Stockpile here. If you’re new to Stockpile, sign up here for another $5.
It also looks like you can redeem for other gift cards if you’re not interested in stock (e.g Target). When you click redeem, scroll down to ‘other options’ and you’ll see the option to redeem for a gift card.
Can you still redeem stockpile GC for third-party GC? There is a stockpile GC promotion going on Groupon?
Anyone able to redeem this for Giftcard recently? I’m not seeing retail gift cards under other options.
Same here. Not seeing that option anymore.
Did any other Stockpile user receive their 1099 yet? I don’t have anything yet (I bought and sold stocks worth <$100 in 2017).
What does “Update: You’re not limited to buying one gift card instead of two” mean? You meant to say “You’re now limited to buying one gift card instead of two”?
Rant. They gave serious issues. For two weeks they have tech issues and can’t credit ny bank account with sold stocks. Beware!
I’ve bought about 25 of the groupons so far (paying other people for them) anyone else trying this? Haven’t had a problem with redemption so far
Are you getting them for $10 or $8? I couldn’t find another code to use for another $2 off on them.
Current promo code is SALE3 (ends tonight). But groupon cycles between 20% off, sale day, promo code day, etc.
They have a 20% off or better promo code about 60% of the time.
It appears that this deal is now limited to ONE voucher per account and is only redeemable for stock. I received an email a few minutes ago with a lot of restrictions for this deal.
I think it was always that way, but I have redeemed a bunch of them with no issue.
My wife and I both were told by Stockpile customer service to ask for refunds from Groupon. They said we weren’t eligible because we got other promotions (Samsung Pay $5 and another $5 signup bonus). Anyone else have this problem?
I did also gifted myself $5 of stocks as was advised by somebody else here in the comments… so, you are saying that this disqualified us from being able to redeem that cash towards gift cards?
I meant not that $5 gift, but the $20 from groupon.
To clarify, she had two different $5 promos and the Groupon ahe bought didn’t work and that’s what customer care told her.
For me, I bought two Groupons. I did one $5 plus one $20 Groupon. My second Groupon didn’t work even though other people said they had success with two.
I got one $5 promo, one $20 groupon, which seemed to have an error but at the end added to stockpile correctly. And now these $20 seemed to be only redemable towards stock. No way to redeem it towards a gift card.
Yep, do not see it either… looks like I am stuck with the stock funds now…
Any suggestions what I can do with that without providing them my SSN?
What’s the harm in giving them Ssn just like to any brokerage company?
People thought the same thing about Equifax, didn’t they? The fewer places you give it to the safer your identity will be. As an IT person myself I have a pretty good idea about how the security features may be implemented in different companies small or large.
If I would be planning to use their services long term I would consider, but since my idea was to see how it works, and just get a Target gift card… I would rather loose $8 than give my SSN to a company I have no plans to do business with, especially that a few people reported questionable customer service on their part.
Hello,
Where exactly is the option for redeeming for a GC (Other Options)?
I just see a redeem screen where it asks to choose a stock and then takes to other screen with list of stocks.
Please help. TIA!
I think they removed it. I redeemed for a gift card on my first go around but when I did a second offer, I noticed that the gift card option was missing. I assume that they removed the option to redeem for a gift card.
Update to the stockpile deal:
I was able to purchase $60 in stockpile gift cards and I used them to buy a super-safe vangard bond fund that basically never changes. After buying the stock, immideitely selling it for cash, I had the money in my bank account within a total of one week. I basically spent $26 to make $58 after all the fees were accounted for,
Nice
For anyone who got “stuck” with stockpile money after they pulled the gift card option, I pretty much did the same thing as Dylan and more than doubled my (pitifully small 2 groupon) investment. Probably not worth the hassle, but I did make more than $30 for my efforts.
