Our Verdict
GTE credit union is based in Florida. Anyone can join by donating $10 to CUsaver.
In the past, people have expressed interest in GTE credit union in the past due to their generous $5,000 allowance of credit card funding for checking or savings accounts (now only $500, $5,000 is for certificates only). Hopefully you can open these accounts (which come with a hard pull) and a credit card all at the same time with one hard pull. Would also be interesting to know more about the cell phone protection advertised offering.
$300 isn’t bad for a cash signup bonus, and it could start making even more sense if you add in a checking + savings to knock out some credit card spend. There is a $10 cost to join, as noted. On the bright side, there is a referral bonus with $25 for each party. Feel free to leave your referral in the comments here, but only if you have some more information you can share about the credit union or their products.

I opened a GTE Go Premier for the 10,000 point ($80) bonus, which I hit (in part) funding an PMCU bank account but never got the points. I haven’t pushed the issue since I don’t really want them to pull the points from that purchase (which I did earn), but just a heads up to people looking at GTE bonuses moving forward, funding bank accounts MIGHT not work for bonuses at this CU.
The info on this page and comments is outdated. CC funding is limited to $500 for checking/savings now. So set your expectations accordingly. If you found this info useful, please consider using my referral code: S560785BGT
Can you still buy CD’s with any credit card at GTE Financial? Any limits on credit card funding CD’s if it is allowed?
I opened an account with GTE, attempted to fund $5,000 (over my CA Limit) with Savor, and it was denied. I’m currently linking an account to fund a few dollars (to keep the account open). It was a hard pull, but I applied and was approved for this card (only 10,000 points currently, but the HP already happened..) without an additional pull. It was roughly a week gap between the two. It’s hardly a decent deal, but if you get the pull and credit card funding falls through, this may be a decent option if you have a way to MS $3,000 pretty quick.
Opened a different CD with 3500 later, posted as purchase. Odd.
GTE card they have a black friday sale

Open a GTE Visa Credit Card in November and earn 10x points during the week of Black Friday!
Are you considering braving the crowds on Black Friday or shopping from the comfort of your couch on Cyber Monday? GTE has never had a better deal for you! If you open a GTE Financial Credit Card in the month of November you will earn 10x points from November 20th (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving) through the conclusion of Cyber Monday on November 26th.*
Not really worth it as bonus is 10k points currently instead of 30k
The GTE $300 bonus is bogus. I went through the entire application, was approved and at the end, it says under details that the bonus is only 10,000 points ($100). I did not make the final click. 3 days later they called me to finalize the application and acknowledged that it is only a $100 bonus. Bait and switch!
If you’re out of state, they request for DL. SS & proof of address, after opening the account, to be emailed to them. And, that’s in addition to the hard pull. Not sure why they don’t have a system to upload the docs like most banks instead of through email. Usually, driver’s license and/or a utility bill was enough for all other banks I have used in the past. Seriously considering letting this hard pull slide since I don’t intend on applying for anything soon. They probably would credit the funding card back which I was hoping to use to meet msr.
Did anybody received the referral points? I don’t see any referral points in my account.
I did. I referred 2 people and got points for both referrals automatically.
My referral points didn’t show up. My account was initially put on hold. Not sure whether it has anything to do with it. When I check my go points balance it’s showing only 500 points.
I suggest you either call them or chat with them. I had some issue that I was able to resolve via chat.
My experience has been so-so.
Overall their communication is not clear and it is even some times contradicting itself.
I applied for a savings account. Approved on the spot (hard pull on Equifax). Was able to setup online login. Funded with CC. Everything looked good. Got a voice mail the next day to call them. I did not. A couple of days after the CC charge has cleared (the money was now in the SV account). I tried to login, but was greeted with a ‘you are locked’. Called. Got transferred to fraud, which requested copy of license, ss card and statement for the CC I paid with. They suggested I should send it over e-mail. I replied e-mail is insecure and was told the only 2 other options are fax or snail mail. I ended up faxing it. A friend also applied and was able to send documents electronically via their systems (or 3rd party services).
I applied for the CC a couple of weeks later. Was approved on the spot (electronically). The web page (and an e-mail) stated “You can expect to receive your card within 5-7 business days”, so I was expecting to receive the card in the mail. Instead I got a call a week later to call them. When I did, they needed me to sign a standard card agreement (via Docusign) and only then will the card be shipped.
Not sure which date they will count as the start of the 90 days to meet the 3K spend, but hopefully I will have no trouble doing that earlier. We usually spend at least 2K on credit cards every month.
Apparently they denied my CC application due to ‘escalating debt’ … Still have not gotten the letter in the mail stating that, but called to see if the card was shipped and this is what they told me.
Anyone aware of a ‘reconsideration’ line or have experience with this?
I do have some relatively high balances on a couple of CC with 0% APR …
This was after the system ‘auto approved me’ and I spoke with someone and signed a standard agreement via DocuSign.
Basically their process is a mess and until you get the actual card in the mail it does not mean you are approved.
Just an update for everyone here… I applied for bank account week after this post. I was able to fund bank account with CC and everything went well for the bank account. Then, they asked for verification documents when I applied for Credit Card. I was cleared as part of the verification process but denied credit card due to multiple cards open on my CR.
I was not happy and closed bank account. There were no fees and I got the check back from them in 3 days.
I applied for share account and saving and week later for CC with Bonus. My accounts have not been funded yet – no email or other info received from GTE.
Today after sending email to confirm 30,000 points on CC email reply states only 10,000 and was told that the 30,000 points offer started in April not March when we all applied.
I have been contacted from Ocala branch even I applied online. CC was received within 7-10 days but savings account has not been funded yet.
Very unreliable bank.
That’s incorrect, $300 bonus was in March. They had an issue with their system, but apparently the back end is fine and you’ll get the $300 bonus.
