Harbor Freight Launches Credit Card With 5% Back Or Financing; 10% Signup Bonus Offer

Harbor Freight has launched a credit card in partnership with Synchrony. Direct Card Link

Card offers one of the following on each purchase at Harbor Freight stores:

  • 5% back in Harbor Freight Money which gets certificates that can be used toward future purchases
  • 0% interest on purchases of $299+

Looks like a fairly standard store card offering. The card is only for use at Harbor Freight stores, with support for online purchases at harborfreight.com coming later this year.

There’s also showing a signup bonus currently to get 10% discount off your entire first purchase with no exclusions. (Sounds like you don’t get the 5% back on this purchase.)

The 5% back might be appealing to someone who shops there often. The 10% signup bonus offer could be nice if you plan to make a very large purchase.

Iv read and heard this is HF competition to Snap Ons tech credit account…ok.

Snap on financing- anyone can get a line of credit. Anyone. I had a 481 credit score and got a line through Snap on with an increasing line of credit based on payment history, not improvement to score.

HF financing- their credit card is a store card, like every card for store credit score requirement will be over 600. I didn’t bother to find out myself after a buddy from work told me he got declined with a 600+ score. I didn’t ask about other derogatories. they will in no way ever compete with snap ons credit requirements. The interest rate may be better but you have to get approved for the card first.

Interesting time to be launching new credit cards. I’m sure it was in the works pre pandemic but maybe delaying the launch would be better? Guess Synchrony knows what they’re doing

“I’m sure it was in the works pre pandemic”

Yeah, it’s been underway since at least Dec 2018, and more details came out in fall 2019.

Can’t imagine many people applying for this card, but besides the catalog and coupon mailers they send out, there is an unofficial (I assume?) app that lists tons of coupons. It’s HFCoupons on Google Play Store. I am a little surprised the stores accept the scanned copies put together by some ingenious individual, but they do.

I’d apply but unfortunately it’s probably synchrony, and I’d rather burn in hell before i do business with them again.

I have HF stuff that’s 10 years old. Their products are fine for occasionally DIY use. The problem is when professionals use HF tools daily when they should have bought professional tools. It says more about the cheapskate pros than about HF’s tools

And HF actually has a more expensive pro-grade tool line now, called Icon. That’s why they’re doing a store credit card now, to compete with Snap-On’s financing.

It was a joke… people used to tell them.

But before it snapped, because the plastic is so cheap you would have used it to pry open a battery compartment, remove food from between the teeth and used it as a wedge to keep a spring loaded cabinet door open. Now those things you would not dare to do with a stronger and more precious sapphire reserve….

Ahhh…that strong whiff of Chinese plastic when you walk through the HF doors!

FWIW, that smell is more from the large black rubber items (mallets, wheel chocks), and the oil used to protect metal items during shipping. Other stuff doesn’t have much smell.

… if you’re lucky enough to apply for it, after your car fell on you when using recalled jack stands.
