Hertz sent out an e-mail to readers on 8/9/22 stating that changes were being made without any warning. As always this was positioned as a positive change but it’s actually a negative. Hertz uses an award chart (new chart here)Â and a free one day rental used to cost 750 points but now costs 950 points.
Hat tip to TPG
Isnt this the one that accuses people of stealing cars without actually telling them?
Yep, then tried (and failed) to have all the lawsuits stuffed into bankruptcy court against the shell company they left behind after exiting bankruptcy.
This is 100% true.
” 47 people have filed a lawsuit in which they claim they were falsely arrested for driving stolen vehicles they leased from Hertz.”
I think it used to be 550 for a One Day rental. Wowowow. That’s absolutely crazy. How many people even have 550 points to where devaluing would be beneficial?
if they can’t put their very best customers in jail, at least they can nerf their points!
As usual it’s always best to use up the points as soon as possible.
I’m glad I burned most of my Hertz points in Hawaii last year, probably saved like $500.
I was also glad that those points didn’t evaporate during the Hertz bankruptcy in 2020.
Though, I never received the e-mail regarding this change as a President’s Circle member.
As I’m still getting pretty good cash rates due to employer negotiated discount. Will continue to use Hertz unless the rates go up.
The points actually do not add much value and I would prefer miles. If I’m not mistaken earning miles is no longer an option
I saved a ton on my Hawaii vacation (about $2,000) but still had some points left
I’m dumping the points I bought a couple of years ago and then I’m a free agent. I liked Hertz because of their arrangement with USAA but I have had better experience with National (though I still don’t like Enterprise).
When managerialism and financialization collapse, future scholars will look to Hertz as an example of a company that destroyed itself by following and implementing every last tenet of those false dogmas.
Hertz hurts
Megahertz.
How many points do you need now to get out of jail?
lol, isn’t this the same company that later says your car is “stolen” why would ANYONE do business with them?!
Hertz owns a number of other brands that are generally better. Who is still renting from the Hertz name? For what possible reason besides you’re not paying and don’t give a shit?
Rented form Hertz recently. But only because a friend of ours offered to book using her employer discount. Otherwise yeah, we don’t typically use Hertz.
AMEX plat 4 hour grace period save our butt several times already
The only compelling reason to use Hertz, at least for me, is that the combination of one-way rentals and Hertz local (non-airport) locations makes them generally the cheapest option when it comes to one-ways.
100% this. $18 for a one-way, one day rental between Fort Lauderdale to Miami is impossible to beat. And, I get a free transfer to the Port of Miami on top of it.
I love Hertz, I find that booking through my AAA membership makes them the cheapest, and I’m 25 now but they waive the underage driver fee if you have AAA membership which saved me so much money in the past 6 years!
Let me guess TPG spins this as a positive change
You don’t need to throw down another site just because you don’t like it.
Also, your comment is just flat out wrong.

Probably same as always… “Devaluations are great because it means more availability!”
