Hilton Honors To Close Shopping Portal On September 1st

Hilton Honors will be closing the shop-to-earn mall on September 1st. They have sent out e-mails to those who have used the portal before:

I think the only time this portal has been useful is when purchasing Hilton gift cards for an American Express offer. This is one of the few loyalty programs not managed by cartera, so I wonder if Hilton plans to add a new portal powered by cartera in the future?

Yeah, like others, it was actually useful to keep the points alive (although I don’t have a lot) with small purchases. Think iTunes was on there. Oh well.

You mean I have to start staying at Hilton now, and not re-upping my points with $2 staples puchaces?

I literally just used this portal the other day for a 7points/dollar vs the regular 1 or 2% back. Since i don’t stay at hiltons regularly, and don’t have a card, its the one program i get worried about points expiring (since that has happened to me before).

This shopping mall (along with the dinning options) were a good way to extend my Hilton point expiration date.

Hopefully they re-launch…but not a huge loss if they don’t. Still got hilton dining!

Since you don’t stay there regularly and don’t have a card, it’ll take you forever to accumulate enough points for a free stay. You should rethink your purchasing strategy, because these points are pretty much worthless to you. I’d take 2% over 7pts any day.

True. Point and mile portals are most valuable for keeping miles and points from expiring. Otherwise, cashback portal rates usually kick.
