Update 11/01/18: You can redeem for points again, but at the old 0.2¢ rate. Congratulations to everybody who got in on the 0.5¢ deal.
Update 10/31/18: Currently not working. If it starts working again we will repost.
Update 10/31/18: Not sure if this is an error or not, but using Hilton points for Amazon points is now showing a value of 0.5¢ per point (previously it was 0.2¢ per point) [our affiliate link here and below]. That’s much better value and something a lot of people would consider worth cashing out for. Makes some of the increased Hilton bonuses worth $500 in Amazon credit! Not sure if this has something to do with the Hilton cards offering 13x points at Amazon. Hat tip to mohamedsharif7. This is working on gift cards as well, some options:
- $200 Visa gift card ($6.95 fee)
- Link to all physical gift cards on Amazon (scroll down to find the third party cards)
- Link to all electronic gift cards on Amazon (scroll down to find the third party cards)
- AirBnB e-gift card
- Uber e-gift card
- Hotels.com e-gift card
- Whole Foods gift card
- Lowes e-gift card
- Netflix e-gift card
- Safeway e-gift card
- Albertson’s physical gift card
- Southwest physical gift card
- Nordstrom gift card
When Hilton changed their rewards program from HHonors to Honors, they made a number of other changes as well (points & money, points pooling, diamond extension and the removal of award charts). They also announced that you’d be able to use points to shop on Amazon. At the time I said that I doubt that the Amazon rate would be competitive but I thought anything over 0.3-0.5¢ would be of some use. Well it’s now possible to use Hilton points for Amazon purchases and you’ll receive a value of 0.2¢ per point (500 points = $1).
I don’t find Hilton points to be particularly valuable, but this is just entirely useless as far as I’m concerned. Obviously some people use these redemption options otherwise loyalty programs wouldn’t bother offering them. That doesn’t make them any more useful for informed consumers though.
I’m seeing it as an option again at 8:50pm 11/9
Fake news
Yup yup. So sorry for the really bad mental math! Thanks for all you do on this site!
No problem
Shipment notification came thru on my Visa cards today. Phew! I did not contact Amazon about it just waited.
Did you get half a cent for this transaction?
Yes. Made it a couple hours before they killed it.
Real world example of why “cashing out” Honors points at 1/2 cent each for Visa GCs is a great deal. I booked a stay at Hilton’s Troubadour hotel in New Orleans for $92 on a promo rate on the official website (nice hotel, btw). Hilton wants 33,000 Honors points for those nights. My Aspire card, Diamond status and modest cashback will earn me enough Honors points to easily compensate for the tax. So using my points for a $92 room rate would only be worth .0028 cents! Much better to cash out, and simply pay cash for the room. If the 1/2 penny promo returns, I’ll definitely cash out more Honors points.
I also got lucky. My 2 Amazon eGCs were delivered in minutes, and my 3 Amazon physical gift cards arrived today. Great way to liquidate a chuck of the Hilton point balance!
My 3 Visa GCs have shipped. I guess it’s my lucky day.
Still waiting…
Ordered 2 $200 vgc through Prime. Arriving tonight.
Order went from Scheduled to Cancelled… Hilton resorts are smiling again…
Mine got cancelled as well. ‘Requires Payment Revision’.
Ordered Visa GC $100 shipped to me. Went through fine, all points deducted from Hilton account.
Amazon still shows “arriving Friday” BUT hasn’t said it’s been shipped OR that it’s been cancelled. Am a tad worried.
My Amazon purchases this week have been taking a few days to ship (not prime).
Thanks for the reassurance!
I don’t have prime either but paid extra for 2 day shipping. Shipped yesterday, arrived today.
My order for a $24 Amazon e-gift card to clear my pitiful little HH points balance at .5 cents each went through just fine, so I guess the amount is a factor here. Also, my order was paid mostly with points, and the remaining balance (50 cents) was with a credit card, so maybe that matters too.
Next time, I’ll do multiple small-amount transactions
I managed to cash out $800+ as a physical Amazon gift card. Order went through like normal.
How disappointing! BOO, Hilton!
