I guess Home Depot wont give a service person a discount so they can repair their house. They are a home repair center that wont give a useable discount to the military. Lowes doesn’t pick and choose so let’s just go across the street to Lowes. I just discovered buying online at Home Depot and picking up at the store for free is not really free. They have adjusted the price I paid online up a few dollars on my credit card when order was ready at least on three orders. I just take the free ship to home which is still free. At least this week anyway.

For years Lowe’s and Home Depot has given a 10% discount to veterans on everything. That has ended. They will no longer give a discount on lumber, electrical and appliances. Is it just a coincidence that both of these stores modify their policies at the same time or is it criminal conspiracy?
No more 10% discount for those which laid their lives on the line for their country; however, if you use your Lowe’s credit card you get a 5% discount on lumber, etc.
Lowe’s appreciates possible interest income over arms, legs, eyes, blood and stress and all things military has given.
I will be buying more items from their competitors.

Well, it wouldn’t go over as well if they did it in the middle of WW3 would it?

With all due respect to your feelings on the 10% discount, I have a serious issue when any group feels as if they are entitled to something/anything. Lowe’s and Home Depot could simply drop the discount completely. 10% off of something is better than 0%.

Well if you are going to go the distance, might as well abolish senior discounts, disability 508 discounts, contractor discounts, all holiday’s, first responders and tax exempt…. Oh hell, since you belong to a group of A-holes, might as well stop any and all sales and discounts!!

I have no issue with all discounts being dropped for individual groups.

Well, PAUL, F your feelings! As a veteran with almost 15 years active with 2 deployments and 16 years as a military contractor with 3 deployments, counting being at Camp Al Assad, Iraq on Jan 8, 2020 when Iran sent theater ballistic missiles at us, about 200 feet from my office, as well as the one to Poland where I just got back from, it’s obvious to me that you have not done ANYTHING but take take take from our country instead of giving some of your own blood, sweat, and tears. For the 1% of us that give a shit about our country, I for one think that we earned these discounts. If you don’t like like go live in another country, like Russia. Have a nice safe day, because there are men and women like me that are standing guard.
Chris.

I love the country but I hate the whining. Congratulations on your service. By the way, how do you know I have not been in the military? You don’t. I don’t believe in the entitlement feeling.

It has been my experience that Lowes will give the 10% off of major appliances if you just ask. Also, before going to shop for appliances check the manufactures’ store site. Maytag allows 10% military discount to stack with any other coupon they have. This in turn will work with Lowe’s price matching.

Glad I bought all my appliances and did most of my home improvement purchases last year.

Lowes has updated their exclusion criteria for 10% military discount.

Discount cannot be be used on any sale item or with any other discount. Discount cannot be applied to major appliances (including related accessories and parts), commodities (such as but not limited to electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB), gift cards, previous purchases, fees, installations (sold separately or as part of a bundle comprising both product and services) or any other services (such as but not limited to rentals, labor, delivery, shipping and extended protection plan.

So does this mean we can no longer simply show a military ID in Home Depot to get the discount? The reason I stopped shopping at Lowe’s was because of their online document-verification-upload requirement. I’m not keen to turn over personal records to just anybody.

Pretty much have to now, but it can depend on the cashier. Most are trained to ask for your phone number so that they can pull up your account info. Your info is there after you register online and verify your eligibility. These new changes allow you to pull up a bar code on the HD app so that you can have them scan it vice phone number look-up, but I still get asked for my phone number as I think some employees don’t know or don’t trust the barcode on the app. One side benefit is that you can go through self-checkout and still get the discount by scanning your barcode on the app.

All the verification is done through id.me. HD and Lowes don’t get anything more than a token back saying that you are who you say you are.

I definitely won’t be giving ID.me any personal data about myself.

Military discount

This is simple. It is easier to say that everyone should have the same discount. You can say over and over again that you never have served in the military and don’t understand why the military should get a discount. It’s easier to give benefits away that you have never heard. If you have note put in the time you will never understand what it take to serve.
What next, takening away military parking because some people don’t understand why they are there.

Nice to see Home Depot finally caught up on the veteran verification system. They always had the discount, but I always have to carry my veterans ID with me to get the discount.

Lowes on the other hand, it’s linked to my Mylowes card, so when I scan that card (or my partner does it at self-check out), I get the discount automatically. This has been around for years.

I see Home Depot has a $400 cap, which wasn’t the case without the new QR system. I wouldn’t be surprise to see Lowes adding that on, given I saved tons on a washer, dryer, stove and fridge last year between vet discount and the black friday sale.

Also looks like home depot exclude a lot of products “commodity products (including lumber, wire, building materials), value priced merchandise, appliances, tool rental fees, labor items, gift cards and services including freight and delivery”. Unsure on what Lowes exclude, but I’ve definitely gotten discount off lumber and appliances with them.

Lowes declined to extend the discount to a new refrigerator and custom blinds I bought from them last month so I know some big ticket items are exempt.
