The American Express Business Platinum card now offers a semi annual $100 dell credit. You get one credit from January through June and then a second credit July through December. In this post we will look at how to maximize this benefit. Make sure to enroll your card in this benefit here first.
Contents
Dell Rewards (3%)
Update: On March 10th, 2019 changes were made so you need to spend $500 within 12 months to receive the 3% rate.
Dell offers a rewards program called ‘Dell Rewards‘. After each purchase you’ll receive up to 3% back on future purchases.
Student Discount (10%)
Dell offers a 10% student discount via UNiDAYS.
Military Discount (10%)
Military members are also offered a 10% discount.
Shopping Portal
Dell is available as a merchant on most shopping portals. Regular rates seem to be around 5%, but it has gone as high as 20% in the past. Remember you can set up notifications when portals hit a certain rate. We will also post whenever big rates are offered.
Coupon Codes
Dell has a dedicated page for coupon codes that can be found here.
Price Match
Dell offers a price match guarantee, if you find a lower price advertised identical electronic product or equivalent then they will match that price. You can either call or chat to get price matched.
Reader Andrew D recommends using PCPartpicker for finding items to price match to. If the price drops after you purchase on Dell.com you can also get the difference refunded, but that’s only if the price decreases on Dell.com and not on a competitors site.
Keep in mind even though you can initiate the price match via chat, it’s completed by phone meaning you can’t stack it with portals or any American Express offer that requires a Dell.com purchase. Update: It’s actually possible to get a quote e-mailed.
AmEx Offers
American Express frequently has AmEx offers for Dell, currently there is a 10% back offer for example.
F.A.Q’s
Do gift card purchases work?
Dell branded gift cards will not work as they are sold through Cashstar and won’t code correctly. Dell also sells Xbox gift cards and I believe these will trigger the credit, you can find the $100 Xbox gift card here. Apparently these Xbox cards also work on the regular Microsoft store. (You’ll find your XBOX gift card in your Dell Digital Locker.)
Can you split a purchase between multiple credit cards?
Yes, dell allows you to use up to three credit cards to pay for a purchase on Dell.com. This can be useful if you have multiple cards with this benefit or if you want to use the Platinum for $100 of a purchase and then another card for the rest.
What happens when you return an item you receive the credit on?
American Express offers a similar benefit on the personal version of this card but for Saks Fifth Avenue, people have reported that if an item was returned it resulted in the credit being clawed back.
Where are my digital items?
These get delivered to your Dell locker, more information here.
Final Thoughts
I’m sure I’m missing some stacking opportunities so please let me know any I missed in the comments below.
Annual fee posted on Dec 13 meaning I have until Jan 12 to cancel. Ordered on Jan 6. What are chances $100 will post before that, and what happens if I close my account before it does>>?
Any info on how the $100 credit stacks with Dell Amex Offers? I have the 10% back as statement credit, and the +1 MR Amex Offers.
For example if I buy something exactly $100 on Dell.com, would be it:
-$100 purchase +$100 statement credit + $10 statement credit + MR = $10 cash + MR
OR
-$100 purchase + $10 statement credit + $90 statement credit + MR = $0 cash + MR
xbox gift card is not available any more~~~
Damn. I was literally on the Microsoft page doing research. Glad I came to your post.
They still work according to recent DPs…https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-business-platinum-200-dell-annual-benefit-live-for-existing-cardmembers-100-twice-per-year/
does unidays no longer offer the 10% student discount? Not seeing it anymore.
It states that you have to go through Dell.com/Amex to get the credit this not being able to use portal. Is that really the case?
I don’t think that’s enforced (or that Amex can even tell whether you went through that precise link)
Late to the party… Does any amount trigger the credit? Can I buy something under $100 and receive the full credit? I have my eye on some accessories that are between $10-$20.
No. You get the credit for the exact amount of your purchase up to 100. It does not have to be 1 purchase. Can be several.
Thank you!
Anyway to get a Unidays account when you are no longer a student?
Does anyone know when the card is charged? When the product is shipped (similar to Amazon) or when the order is placed. Trying to decide if I should risk buying a product which is expected to be delivered in July 1st week. Thanks
This Dell digital locker sucks. I was only able to access mine once. After i got the code for the first card (purchased 3 GCs), i keep getting redirected now top some odd ‘product registration’ page when i try to access the locker. Put in a service request, still waiting to hear back.
let us know what happens
Agh sorry about the delayed response, anyways the problem cleared up after like 2 and a half weeks (rolling eyes).
2 questions on Citi price rewind. I’m thinking of buying a tv at Dell that comes with $300 dell giftcard. This tv is currently $250 less at Newegg. I have 2 Amex biz Platinums (for 2x $100 dell credit + 10% off at dell) and I also have citi Primier.
1) Will I be able to do price rewind from Dell to Newegg given that Dell purchase also comes with a GC? I see in the T&C on Citi that the lower priced product you are matching to cannot include a bonus or rebate, but doesn’t seem to cover if the item you purchased came with a bonus. Would they even know about the Dell GC?
2) Citi price rewind says it has max of $200 or amount paid on citi card. If I put only $200 on citi and the remainder on my Amex cards (to max out 10% cashback), will I really get credited full $200 for citi price rewind, or is it somehow prorated by the amount you put on your citi compared to total purchase price?
Did anyone successfully get the 100 credit for the xbox live gift card?
Yes
