HSBC Devalues Points Transfers, Now 1.25:1 (Previously 1:1)

HSBC has devalued point transfers and now most transfers at a rate of 1.25 HSBC point to 1 travel partner point. Previously the rate was 1:1. For most people this won’t matter as the cards have been discontinued/bonuses haven’t been offered for some time but some readers will have existing points/cards. There is currently a 25% transfer bonus for the Avios programs bringing it to the 1:1 rate.

Wonder if the debt crisis in china played a roll in this decision.

Ugh, HSBC claims to be a global bank, but they’re seemingly discouraging US residents from doing business with them.

Still 1.25 through the portal (Priceline) which is pretty good

Elite card redeems 1.5 for travel so still useful for booking a rental car.
