Update: This might be a targeted promotion as the mail out for this offer did include a unique promo code. I don’t see anything on the landing page that states it actually needs to be applied but YMMV as always. Additionally normally Huntington Bank offers pre-populate the promo code and this one doesn’t.

Our Verdict
For whatever reason Illinois and Wisconsin residents are not eligible for this bonus (they were recently added to the $200 bonus). This is the best ever bonus Huntington Bank have offered (apart from the $350 targeted offer). This bonus is pretty insane as it doesn’t really have any requirements for the bonus apart from depositing the $2,000 for the $300 bonus. Keeping it fee free is a little bit annoying, but you can always close the account after getting the bonus and eat the fees for a few months. This is definitely one of the best checking bonuses currently available. They also have a business checking bonus for $500 that’s worth doing.

I applied for the 300 bonus as well. Was denied because ‘Huntington was not aware of this promo’ yet the link provided here was a Huntington link. Since then, the link has changed. I would like to know more about the CFPB complaint Gary made.
I also applied for the $300 bonus w/o a code and haven’t got the bonus. I called the bank and the csr asked me for the promo code I used. Where in the fine print does it say I needed a code? And what was the code? Csr is filing a grievance on my behalf. I’ll let y’all know what happens.
So I signed up for this as soon as I saw this page for the $300, and didn’t realize until after the fact that a code was required. I explained to branch managers, and CSR’s that the $300 offer was public on their website, and nowhere did it say a code was required, but they didn’t budge.
Long story short, they became great to work with and honored the $300 bonus after a CFPB was filed!
Good news, shame it didn’t auto credit.
Data point: I bought a $5 code off eBay. Finished my $2k deposit (MS deposits, actually) on 4/14. $300 bonus posted on 4/18. I previously had a Huntington checking account, but closed it at least 6 months ago, and I think more than 1 year ago (though I can’t remember when exactly).
Data point: I already have the $500 bonus business checking account with my soc # attached to it.
I bought a $6 personal checking code off EB just to be safe, opened up personal checking.
4/14: $2K posted
4/18: Received $300 bonus
So it looks like having a business checking with them doesn’t disqualify you from receiving this bonus. I even have them under the same login.
Thanks for info, Bob!
DP of successfully received bonus using only link (without using a code)? Afraid I jumped on this too early.
I got my $300 bonus 8 days after my ally transfer of $2K.
I’m going to try downgrading tomorrow as someone else suggested.
Did you use a code or link posted here?
I used a code that came in my mailer.
The downgrade was also very easy. I went in a branch, asked for a downgrade and walked out in few minutes later.
Debating on signing up my Wife for the Check-5 Plan, even though she’s already tied to my/our JOINT Checking Account… I wonder if I can remove her first =P
Since this wouldn’t really cost anything, I feel like its a good chance to ‘take one for the team’ for a future DP.
I didn’t want to risk missing out on any bonus, so I bought a coupon code on eBay for $15. $285>$200
Is the code specific to the mailer?
Yeah, these promotions needs codes. Some are public and pre-populate in the online application, but others are targeted like this one. The code comes in the mail.
If any of you have taken advantage of the offer from the web link with no promo code, please post if/when you get the bonus. $2,000 (non-direct) deposit is super easy and quick to get, so hopefully we have some DPs in a few weeks, since the bonus is supposed to post within 14 days. I’m skeptical that it would be applied without any promo code.
