The Fine Print

Our Verdict

Seems like you can purchase multiple $100 fixed-value card in separate transactions and get a free $10 Hy-Vee gift card for each purchase. [Update: Readers note that you can buy more than one $100 card per transaction, and get multiple $10 Hy-Vee gift cards for a single transaction.] After accounting for the fees, you’ll net a few dollars plus the credit card points. A commenter on Milestomemories also mentions the possibility of getting gas rewards on the purchase.

Pretty good deal, but of course, it’s a hassle dealing with so many Visa/MC gift cards.

My Hy Vee will not allow using CC to buy GC

Try a different location. Mine allowed me to purchase 9 cards (said there was a max of $999/day, including the fee).

Manager approval required and had to look at my card / ID. No HyVee fuel points received for purchase. I bought these before paying for my groceries and used up several of the $10 cards immediately.

As an extra bonus, this allowed me to complete the spend requirement on a new credit card. 🙂

I don’t know how to cash these out, so I’ll just use them for groceries and Costco (make sure to get Visa cards) over the next two months.

I have had no issue at my Hy-Vee with variable $500 VGCs from a variety of VGC issuers … All paid by CC for few months. Manager level is required to make the sale of the VGC, A couple of managers checked my ID name vs the name on the CC, but no real problem Thanks for this post, I am about to go check it out.

My Hy-vee has a good supply of the $100.00 GVC from a couple of different vendors. I got 5x$100 Meta GVC plus one $500 Meta GVC = $1000.00 face value + 5.95 fee all rang up on one receipt. Choice of only five was my choice. Store would have rung up more if I desired. They even offered. Paid by Bravo CC from Santander for 3% cashback. Store had some small signage about the offer. Store Assistant Manager had to punt as they were not well informed about the offfer. Each $100.00 GVC when rung up had a popup screen to tell the Hy-Vee person to give a $10.00 Hy-Vee GC with it. Both the GVC and the Hy-Vee GC must be separately activated.
I went to the Hy-Vee Gas and gave in store person $20.00 of these Hy-Vee GC as deposit on gas purchase. Bought $8.00 of gas and got $12.00 cash back

If you can’t use variable GC why do the terms give “max load value”? Has anyone tried multiple $100 VGC’s to get multime Hy-Vee gift cards in the same transaction? Thanks

You can buy as many $100 GC as you want/clerk allows per transaction. Tried a few $500 variable ones, but they didn’t work for this promo. I just visited my two HyVee spots and cleared them out of 14 of these $100 bad-boys. As today was start of promo, not all clerks knew about promo, but once educated, they went through fine. $140 in free groceries? Heck yes!

Never been able to get fuel points at Hyvee with MCGC/VGC. eBay and other store GCs, yes though.
