Our Verdict
Associated Bank has never offered a business checking bonus as far as I know, but there is a $400 personal checking bonus. This business checking bonus seems pretty easy, main issue is that the account needs to be kept open for one year and you need to have a balance of $5,000+ to keep it fee free. We will add this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

Easy $300. referral did not stack.
Not sure if it is a referral bonus, but I went to a local branch on 4/18 to open a personal checking account and the manager also signed me up for a $300 business checking bonus after finding out I had a business credit card. I didn’t see this advertised anywhere and couldn’t find anything online, but I got a flyer and everything.
William Charles May make sense to add this one back to the best bonus list. Don’t know if there is a referral component or anything, just happened upon it while signing up to get the personal bonus the other week.
Terms from the flyer I got are below. Customer-initiated transaction isn’t defined, but the manager who opened my account clarified via email that debit card transactions count, which may be a departure from prior offers.
1. Business customers: Earn up to $300 when you switch to Associated Bank.

Update – bonus posted to my account soon after I posted yesterday.
4/18: Open account in branch with $100 deposit and received debit card
4/26: Completed 5th debit card swipe
4/28: $300 bonus posted
I confirmed with the manager a few days ago that the $5,000 to remain fee-free doesn’t even have to be deposited until 6/18, so only cash in the account was the opening deposit less the ~$10 in debit transactions.
She also mentioned when I’d opened that downgrading is really easy, so I’m going to see if I can do that in the next couple of weeks so I don’t have to put any more (or as much) cash in.
I did 5 transactions on Mar 29th (5 bill payments and 5 P2P deposits) and its been >75 days since account opening, still no bonus. I signed up with referlive then had associated bank open my business checking account. Any ideas?
It does say “complete five (5) customer”, does this mean me, as in I am a customer of associated bank and need to complete 5 transactions, or do I need a customer of my business to complete these transactions?
Yeah, customer-initiated transactions is a pretty odd wording but it says debit transactions are excluded. So, in my interpretation, ACH out where it debits your account to a creditor or bank (preferably not setup at Associated) or ACH deposits coming from someone else other than you, should have counted.
The other possibility is that you were not enrolled in the promo. I think the bill pays should have worked, The way most bill pays work is the 3rd party bill payment processor (ie Fiserv) within online banking sends money to your biller, meanwhile, pulls money from your account via ACH to make up for what they sent. From the eyes of Associated Bank, should be the same either way… they get an ACH pull.
Since it hasnt post in 75 days I can conclude the bonus is not coming. Maybe the promo wasnt properly applied, I am unsure. Is it worth digging in to? Call Referlive? Associated Bank? CFPB complaint? Id say at the very least referlive as they’re the ones who applied the promo.
Again, consuming terminology “customer-initiated”. Is I making a bill payment 5 times customer initiated? What does “customer initiated” even mean? Unsure. Cant say for sure until this definition is determined.
Seeing others getting a fast bonus just from deposits / withdraws im hoping its just an error with referlive and they can honor the promo (fingers crossed)
Yeah, I can’t tell ya who to call. Normally Refer Live issues the bonuses on these deals, but this offer is different. I would at least try to make an attempt to collect… $300 is on the line. The worst they can do is say no, and you can close the account and move on.
I assume you know, but Michelle is my P2. She only had one successful referral for this year, and it was on 6/1, but I have no other info showing in ReferLive. (in the past RL would show the email address) I assume that one was Betha.
If you would like Michelle’s info, so you know who referred you before you start making calls, hit me up. Gadget at bankbonusgeek.com.
And, I wouldn’t give them the opportunity to debate “customer-initiated” BS… just inject that your account had more than five non-debit transactions and inquiring on the status of the bonus. Make the problem with their system, not the fine print. killdozer
I did both personal and business, received the personal bonus. Uses SSN for business and it turns out that since I receive the personal bonus, that disqualifies me for business bonus.
Well, that’s unfortunate. Usually, banks treat personal and business bonuses separately.
Are you sure they aren’t just using that as an excuse? CSR’s love to spew whatever they think explains why the system didn’t pay out. Nothing I see specifically excludes past personal checking customers…
But they have catch-all statements… “cannot be combined with other specials or offers and is subject to change (at Associated Bank’s discretion)”
In my opinion, you’re being screwed. jcp I’d file a CFPB complain and see if they change their tune.
I will give this CFPB complain a try. But it would help to know if at least one person received both personal, and business using the same SSN.
I can’t help ya with the DP. I’d suggest making a new top-level comment asking on the most recent Ass. Bank Business & Personal post.
I think if they are going to deny it for those reasons, it should be clearer in the terms, and even without a DP, the bank has to answer that question.
killdozer same here. I made more than 5 ACH deposits but my bonus never posted within 75 days. Did you get any resolution?

Will try to downgrade to Foundation Ck before 6/30 to avoid monthly fee
I still couldn’t figure out how to generate my own referral to post yet. Can anyone give some tips? TIA
NICE, IM GONNA HIT THIS SOON THANKS FOR THE INFO.
Do you get an email that has referral code in it after registering? Registered and haven’t received anything.
You dont get a code when you sign up, just an email saying: “Thank you for registering with Associated Bank!” with the fine print on how to get the $300.
I used the same link, have the email and believe I completed the reqs (see my above post). I didnt open in branch though, I was able to get a business account open since I already had a personal and had a business banker open it via email. Since its been >75 days Im not sure if im going to get the bonus.
killdozer did you get the bonus or give up?
did you receive a personal bonus recently? was your business sole prop?
Also, the (5) transacitons can be anything, do 5 0.01 bill pays, 5 ach transfers, etc.
Was able to open an account over the phone, I already have a personal account with them so I dont have to go in to a branch, I just got to get some docs notarized
pass.
Chuck Might want to add that this isn’t available to open online, only in branch.
Parking 5,000 for a year is a no for me bro.
Can’t you downgrade the account to the no minimum Foundation account after you get the bonus? That’s what I did on the personal account last year.
Sounds like it
Dan You could:
1. downgrade to the Business Foundation Checking®, which has no monthly fee, after getting the bonus (not against terms, as the account remains open)
2. or, close the account after getting the bonus. I’ve never seen a rep care about anything other than making sure no transactions are pending. (technically against terms but likely not enforced, esp with a zero bal)
3. Or, play the completely honest game and just do the $100 bonus and stay with the Business Foundation Checking® for a year.
Too bad you can’t open online, terms are very easy to meet. Terms say you have to open with a promo code but they don’t actually give you a promo code..
. This offer is limited to a new business Associated Bank checking account opened and funded through December 31, 2022, using qualifying promo code by customers who have been registered with ReferLive using the link provided to them by a current Associated Bank customer.
BW Usually with ReferLive offers, there is nothing special you need to do at the bank, so I am not sure why it is mentioning a promo code on this one.
Normally you just register your info online, use the same info to open the account, and ReferLive verifies that you completed the offer and mails you a Visa Rewards card. However, this offer says the new customer bonus is deposited and not a gift card.
Hopefully someone reports back with their experience and if the reps are aware of the promo code.
I was under the impression, based on the footnotes, that the referring person gets the $50 gift card while the referee gets the $100/$300 bonus deposited.
I 100% agree. New customer’s bonus is a $100 or $300 deposit… the existing customer gets $50 Visa® Reward Card.
Once you register though, no promo code appears, so I am thinking the promo code is something ReferLive communicates to Associated, just like they do for verification of the $50 Reward Card.
