IHG Extending/Offering Points For Expiring Free Night Certificates

IHG has already extended some free night certificates that were due to expire on 12/31/21. Others still have free night certificates expiring 12/31/21 and have been able to call in and request that the certificates either be extended or get points in exchange for the free night certificates.

  • 25,000 points per night: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
  • 40,000 points per night: 1,

The number called was 1 (888) 211-9874. It also seems like the certificates stay in the account and the points post as a goodwill gesture. Seems like 40,000 points per night is an outlier so I wouldn’t expect that.

I just noticed our free nights now expire 12/31/22 instead of May & August. Not sure when this changed. These were our 2021 card anniversary nights however they show in the “1 free night” section and it clearly shows “0 anniversary nights,” perhaps this was something to do with the recent program changes?

Called both 888.211.9874 and 877.318.5890 this afternoon and the phone reps were very clueless about giving out points. I told them to check with the supervisors and they both said they are not giving out points for expiring certs anymore.

I called 888.211.9874 today and was transferred to reservations where the agent was only able to offer 5k then 7k points for my free night cert that expires this week.  I hung up and called 877.318.5890 and I was able to receive 25k points rather quickly.  Be sure to state “rewards” at voice prompts in order to get the rewards department which I did not do on my first call.  I don’t know if getting the rewards department vs reservations makes any difference but it did for me.

Just tried to extend or convert a Feb. expiring certificate. I was told that it had been extended several times already and they were not extending expirations anymore. He also said that the free night conversion to 25k point policy ended on 12/31/21. So it looks like these are all use them or lose them.

Is it still possible to get the extension if the night has already expired?

I wasn’t able to get anything for my expired certificate. Was told 3x there were no other options if I didn’t use my certificate before 12/31. I don’t know what people said to get the points, but it didn’t work for me.

Similar to previous reports. Just called 888-211-9874, said “Rewards”, on hold for about a minute.
Was told extension for Chase free night is not possible because it is from 2020 (according to Chase rules), but was offered 25k points as a courtesy (for one certificate). Points appeared in the account immediately.
