Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Freedom checking has no monthly fee to worry about. Statement savings has a $3 monthly fee if the balance requirement of $200 is not met
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account termination fee of $25 if the account is closed within six months according to the fee schedule.
Our Verdict
Last year they offered a $200 bonus. This is a much bigger bonus and the requirements are fairly similar. This one should be worth doing if it’s a soft pull to open and as you need to open in branch it should be possible to ask if it’s a soft pull before opening. There is also a $1,200 business bonus as well. If you go for this bonus then please share your experiences below.

how much should I keep to avoid monthly fee for saving account?
Needed proof of WI/IL address in branch
Per the banker I spoke with over phone today, this offer expired last week (Aug 9).
Can anybody confirm?
so direct deposit in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd statement cycles won’t count?
I opened this account in branch this year and only opened maybe 3 or 4 accounts over the last 12 months but more like 15 since the beginning of 2018 regardless I had no problem getting approved. Don’t know how to check if they are Chex system sensitive. I typically used my Schwab brokerage account to trigger direct deposits has anyone had success using Schwab with this bank!?!? also now that circle is shutting down is anyone aware of sites similar to circle that enable you to make “charges” on a debit card that you can just transfer back to you bank account? ( I live in IL)
Anyone out of state tried opening this?
I would have been able to open out of state at a branch, but I was declined for too many Chex inquiries (I’ve opened a lot of accounts this year). So they are Chex sensitive in branch.
Same thing.

Fine print says $200 minimum balance to avoid $3 fee on savings
Anybody know if byline is Chex sensitive??
See the business checking thread for two very different dp’s. I was approved even though my Chex report is 20 pages long, but someone else reports being denied for too many recent inquiries. So who knows?
For the personal account I was denied today for too many recent inquiries. Chex.
how many accounts have you opened over the last 6 months? I have to drive two hours to get to a branch, so it would help to know the likelihood of rejection.
I’m not so sure I want to sit through the entire process only to find out it’s a hard pull…Wish I knew before I went into one of their branches.
Hard pull? ouch…
No hard pull, did it this morning.
