Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
f1RST® Simple Checking has a $0 monthly fee, although there is a $3 paper fee
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account termination fee of $25 if closed within six months of account opening, bonus also forfeit.
Our Verdict
Seems like a very easy bonus to meet the requirements for and no monthly fee to worry about either. Obviously a relatively small bonus but an additional $100 donated to United Way as well. Will add this to the best bank account bonuses.

Dear Valued Client,

My Chex was only 5/24. Out of the 5, two were denials ( past 3 months – Wintrust, and AXOS BANK denied me in past 3 months and now First financial piled up on those!)
Successful DP-
4/6/2023 – opened online, funded with NFCU cash rewards with chex frozen, posted as purchase but did not earn rewards
4/7/2023- got call from fraud department verifying that I opened the account. Did not ask me to unfreeze chex
4/10/2023-4/13/2023- 3 bill payments for ~$1 each to car insurance
4/18/2023- bonus posted
DP for anyone just outside the 25 mile distance requirement – I’m less than 2 miles over and the bonus was denied.
Figured the requirements were simple enough and the extra distance was small enough that I should give it a shot! Just in case anyone is debating whether or not to risk adding a new Chex inquiry to their report lol
I asked the rep if an exception could be made since the additional distance was so small, and she will file a feedback request. Not expecting the answer to change at all, but I’ll update here if I get a response.
Datapoint with regards to the banks Chex sensetivity.
I’m at lol/24 (probably 30 or more) when it comes to chex inquiries, so I decided to go in-branch for this one. I was able to open the account and fund my initial deposit, and faced no obstacles doing so. If you’re like me and have lost track of your chex inquiries, try doing this one in person.

Tried opening acct last night. I think I was denied due to Chex. Opened 2 new accts in past 2 months. Probably less than 60 days apart.
Opened this today. Initial funding with credit card is only up to $100. Used Chase IHG Business Rewards Premier to fund. Pretty easy process.
Follow-up: They called the next day for both P1 and P2 to verify that we did open the accounts. Both accounts are now inaccessible and initial funding has been returned to credit card. Funnily enough they still sent emails asking about our account opening experience.
01/13 – Account opened Online. Live in 12 miles of branch location.
01/27 – Made 3 DC transactions with Amazon pay load for $1 each.
02/20 – $200 posted in next statement cycle with desc “Account Credit”.
Non US Citizen.
Thank you DoC.
