The Offer
- Streator Onized Credit Union (SOCU) is offering a bonus of $100 when you open a new checking account. Bonus is broken down as follows:
- Set up a debit card and eStatements within 10 days of account opening and receive a $25 bonus
- Complete step 1 and complete 25 debit card transactions within 90 days of account opening and receive a $25 bonus
- Complete step 1 + step 2 and do one of the following to get a $50 bonus:
- Add direct deposit within 90 days of account opening
- Open a new loan ($5,000 minimum) within 90 days of account opening
The Fine Print
- Checking offer is not available to SOCU members with existing primary checking or those whose previous checking accounts have been closed within 180 days.
- Business accounts not eligible for this promotion. Employees and members of household are not eligible for this promotion.
- Checking account subject to credit approval.
- After you have completed each subsequent step of the checking requirements, we’ll deposit the bonus in your new account within 10 business days of meeting that requirement.
- Limit one bonus per primary member.
- If the checking account is closed by the member within six months after opening, we will deduct the bonus amounts at closing.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict
A lot of requirements for such a small bonus, especially when you need to open in branch. Even if it’s a soft pull this is probably not worth doing so we won’t add it to our best bank bonus page.

What’s with the weird credit union names today, Credit Human and Streator Onized? I googled onized and found a NJ CU called Bridgeton Onized. The common factor is that both were originally restricted to Owens-Illinois employees. Maybe a back-formation from uni-onized? Or maybe Owens sounds sort of like Onized?
