Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Basic checking is the easiest to keep fee free unless you’re over 55 (as that account has no monthly fee). To avoid the $5 fee on the basic checking account do one of the following:
- eStatements
- Maintain a balance of $1,000
- Receive a direct deposit
Early Account Termination Fee
According to this comment there is a fee of $25 if the account is closed within 90 days.
Our Verdict
We’ve seen the same bonus available at their Noblesville location before as well. Given that it’s a soft pull it should be worth doing for most people, just keep in mind there is at least one report of them being ChexSystems sensitive. If anybody goes for it then please share your experiences in the comments below. I will be adding it to the best bank bonuses.

Super fast & easy!
William, I posted in the last Horizon post, but there is a fee of $25 if account closed within 90 days.
They are very Chex sensitive. They shut down my account even though I opened legit in branch. Their Corp office called me and asked a bunch of questions about preexisting accounts.
How many accounts did you have in the last 12/24 months?
A lot… probably over a dozen this year alone. They were mostly concerned with two other banks I had applied for the week I signed up for theirs. Everything went well in the branch I went to, but the corporate office called a few days later and shut it down.
I also signed up in branch with a dozen plus inquiries in the past year. Never received anything like this from them and received the bonus just fine. The difference may have been that I had not opened an account in a month or so before opening an account with them.
Opening was a soft pull.
