JetBlue offers 3x miles on each $1 spent on Amazon through their shopping portal. On April 1, 2017, they added an exclusion on earning miles for the purchases of Amazon gift cards. Around July 11, that exclusion was no longer showing.
The exclusion is now showing again as before.Â
It’s unclear why the exclusion was removed for a couple of weeks. We also don’t know exactly when it came back (the last Way Back entry is July 15), but I do recall checking once, maybe a week ago, and it was not showing any gift card exclusion. The exclusion probably came back within the past day or so.
It remains to be seen how JetBlue will deal with this. They should award miles for Amazon gift cards purchased during those couple of weeks that the exclusion was not there. We’ll see. It usually takes about a month for miles to show – let us know in mid-August whether your gift card purchases earned miles or not.

I’m confused on what an Amazon gift card is. Is it any gift card purchased on Amazon (say Nike) or is it an Amazon gift card to be used as a payment method on Amazon itself?
If you buy an Amazon gift card on amazon.com you will not earn JetBlue points. If you buy a third-party gift card on amazon.com (e.g. Nike) you will earn Jetblue points, regardless of how you pay. If you buy regular items on amazon.com (e.g. a laptop or tissues) and pay with an Amazon gift card, you will earn Jetblue points.
Do you get points if you pay with an amazon gift card? I feel like I’m missing a lot of points, and this may be why?
Such purchases aren’t excluded and should earn points.
Why do these portals exclude gift cards all the time? Doesn’t it encourage more spending?
Double dipping – you get points for buying those gift cards and then get more points when using those gift cards to make an actual purchase.
