Update 2/1/21: The Jewel shopping portal is closing down on March 31. You can cash out if you have $15+. Hat tip to reader RM
Original Post:
Jewel is a new shopping portal that offers cash back, to differentiate themselves from the hordes of other similar sites such as eBates and Topcashback they focus exclusively on luxury brands. One of the reasons they have decided to focus on this luxury market is that some luxury retailers are hesitant to show on other cash back sites as not all of the other listed retailers are ‘on-brand’. They also give 1% of gross profits to charities like The Empowerment Plan and Charity Water.
Unique Brands
Because they only show luxury brands Jewel claims that they have been able to forge partnerships with retailers that don’t normally show on other cash back sites. According to Jewel approximately 20% of their listed retailers are unique to them and not found on other portals. Some examples are as follows:
- Serena & Lily
- Glossier
- Carbon38
Referral Program
They offer a referral program, new users will receive $5 when using a referral link (I believe they receive this even if they don’t use a referral link) and the person referring will receive $5 for every person who signs up and makes a qualified purchase. A qualified purchase is any purchase that earns at least $10 in cash back. Feel free to use my link found here. Please don’t post your own links in the comments of this post as I’d like to keep that for discussion of this portal, you can instead share them in the comments of this linked post.
Our Verdict
Shopping portals are so common these days, so opening a new one with any point of difference is difficult. It’s nice to see Jewel focusing on luxury brands and bringing some brands in that aren’t found on other portals. If they focus on that then I can see them having some success but I do think there will be issues getting more luxury brands on board. That being said it might be worth signing up if you shop at brands that are found on Jewel but not on other portals. As always I recommend using a site like cashbackmonitor to ensure you’re getting the best rates possible.
Got my $14 paypal today and P2 got an email to look out for her $11 check in the mail. So it looks like they held up their end, even below the $15 minimum payout. I’m not too surprised, as I’ve only had good experiences with Cap1 personally.
This will probably end up like the Spent app. Request to cash out -> Receive nothing
if i have less than $15 will i receive a final payment on March 31?
Their F&Q isn’t that clear. It says if you didn’t get $15 you can’t withdraw Feb
Had nothing but problems with Jewel. I cant say I am sad to see them go.
Initially, I used to use usejewel.com in the past because DOC review gave them a good review and for some of the luxury sites that I frequently visited, they paid better – my clicks always registered and they paid timely on their schedule. However, for about the past 12 months, they did not offer a better rate, so I had no reason to use the site – I stuck with my “main” cash back sites.
Sorry so see them go.
Scammer. AVOID!!!!! FUCK THEM
Can’t scam ya anymore if they’re out of business. Guess they didn’t pocket enough of your money
Just a heads-up: Jewel doesn’t register a lot of clicks and is clearly trying to avoid payout. They’ve had multiple purchases of mine for about a month now that they “just haven’t received info” on. Avoid, they’re clearly about to go under.
Avoid Jewel at all costs. I earned over $100 cashback, but it has been listed as “Pending” for over 90 days. I contacted their customer service and they just blame the store for not confirming the order. So I contacted the store and they said they have no idea what Jewel is talking about and there’s nothing more for them to do. I contacted Jewel again and explained this and they stopped responding to my emails and will not do anything about my cashback that has been pending for over 90 days. This site is clearly a scam.
This site’s a joke. Promises high percent cashback but never actually posts any rewards from clickthroughs. I had to go back and forth with their CSR to get multiple large purchases credited, and even then they only showed up after she went out of her way to manually credit me. Their latest CSR refused to do that, and all my clickthrough purchases have been ignored, so I’ve moved on and stopped wasting my time here.
Do not use. Made a ~$1500 hotels.com purchase, after the trip it shows as “Acknowledged” — transaction acknowledged but no payout. Was a regular purchase, no additional coupons. I assume it was because it earned the usual hotels.com credit towards 10% off after 10 nights. Nowhere in terms. Took a risk to try it out, but will be going back to ebates and more trustworthy cashback sites.
