Our Verdict
Need to answer a few questions and enter your e-mail and name, there is a field for your number as well but that can be left blank. Apparently this stuff is pretty easy to make yourself if you find you like it.
Small moneymaker deal too! Stack this with ibotta $1.25 cashback (can buy up to 5) William Charles
They were free, so I bought them. For a plant based protein, we enjoyed them, Popped in Toaster, ate plain or with salsa.
It’s hard to get onboard with this type of thing. “Just Egg” is 98% Water/Beans/Canola Oil. Imagine dumping cooking oil into your morning water and slamming that down.
Based on the nutritional content, it should be roughly:
> 60% Water
16% Mung Bean Protein Isolate
12% Canola Oil
6% Corn Starch
less than 2% each of the other ingredients
It’s not accurate to say 98% of the first three ingredients because the “less than 2%” ingredients refers to each one individually, not added up, so you could technically have 1.99% of each one. (Also, you forgot corn starch.)
But your real point is that these aren’t necessarily healthy, so I agree with you. Plus if protein isolates/powder don’t bother you, you can avoid the oil/starch and just get whey (or a veggie version, if that’s your thing) protein powder and mix it with water.
On the other hand, these are free, so in for some anyway 🙂
it says expired 3/31/22
Not true, my coupon says good until 5/15/2022
these are great.. not exactly like a “real egg” but I would say they are like a healthier/more sustainable version of the egg on a fast food breakfast sandwich… also i love you just pop them in the toaster for 1 minute and it is a hot AF
Plant-based eggs? If you’re interested, get them while you can. Maybe you can find this stuff in hipster neighborhoods, but I’ve been watching the fake meat case in my local supermarkets shrink to almost nothing in the past 2 years. There isn’t a large market for this stuff.
Not at all true, on the East Coast at least. There are more and more high end plant based products showing up in supermarkets and restaurants, even carnivorous ones. As an almost lifelong vegetarian who doesn’t eat real eggs, though, I have no desire to reproduce the taste and texture of eggs. Or hot dogs.
DP: successfully redeemed two identical coupons in the same transaction at my local Vons. (Albertsons-owned stores are the only ones in my area that carry this item.) Got a bit of pushback from the cashier, as store policy technically states that they do not accept printed “free product” coupons, but convinced her to try scanning it and she agreed to take it once the POS system accepted it.
Kid, who is normally a fussy eater, gobbled these up, so will be going back for more.
What was the price? RM
J2 $4.49 per box.
Couldn’t find them. What area of the store? Dairy? Frozen?
They’re frozen. If you have your supermarket’s app, you can generally find out what aisle a product is in by searching for it in the app.
Milo Search for 960557953 on your local Albertsons/Vons/Safeway etc. store website. If you don’t see it, change the zip code and pick a different store.
This item is usually in the frozen section, but not all stores have it.
Just a note for anyone who is part of the cage-free movement like I am: This product does not contain any tomatoes, which is a relief because that means we can safely eat this product.
(Tomatoes are often grown in cages, for anyone wondering.)
I hope I’m not gullible and falling for a joke here, but what is objectionable about growing tomatoes in cages?
For some reason I keep getting ineligible and I’ve tried most of the options in incognito…any tips?
1) vegetarian/vegan/not following any diet 2) always/half the time. 3) never tried their product
I opened it in Firefox incognito and turned off my adblocker, then answered it the following way and it worked:
1) not following any diet 2) always 3) never tried their product
also gotta love the environmental impact these contribute to, even if you replace just a few eggs per week. did you know it takes about 50 gallons of water to produce one egg?
These types of stats are disingenuous because most of that water is just rainwater falling on the crops the animals eat. It’s not taking fifty gallons of drinking water that would have been used for some other purpose.
Right but eating the crops directly is way more efficient, since animals use most of that energy for body heat, other metabolic processes.
it’s about nutrition. You cannot fit the amount of grains/veggies in your stomach to get the same nutrients as 2-4 eggs give you and make it tasty at the same time for a similar price.
Find me something and i’ll switch.
along with what andy said, the problem with the egg industry is how they treat the chickens. Most would call it abuse and in future, we will probably see a shift from animal products and a move to better business practices.
